Here's my take on adding a BA12-3 to an existing 12" Cab.

I currently have a single BA12-3 and a Schroeder cabinet 8ohm 12PL which for all intents and purposes should play nicely with the BA12-3 sitting on top of it. I have yet to pair them together but when I do I intend to follow Jeff's recommendation to "...turn off the tweeter on the xxx cab when you're running both cabs...".

My reason for mixing cabs is due to my location (NZ) and the fact that no retailers are selling them here (yet) therefore I had to make do with a single cab and pay the extortionate prices for shipping and importing fees to get it here. If I lived in the US I would've without a doubt purchased 2 x BA12-3 cabs and would be very happy indeed, but geographically it's just not an option at the moment.

I sincerely thank you for all of the effort and expense it took to get that cab to NZ.

Last night I ran my doy ported 2x12 loaded with eminence s2012 drivers along with a carvin 9x3" column and found that the mids/highs were so vertically directional that I had to bend down to hear them, even at a distance. So, I'm not sure how the ba123 gets around this when a pair are stacked. I know that they will sound good but, that's a sticking point for me. Just wondering.

I'm also wondering - on the Magellan 800, if you use the "Clean" channel, are you bypassing "Contour" and just working with the EQ? I'm thinking this head could be very versatile for upright/electric doubling if there is a truly clean channel option for the upright. One channel for each perhaps ....

No. Contour works with both Clean and Drive channels.
To work with EQ alone, use the Clean channel, set Contour to Flat, and then adjust EQ to taste.

Thanks for the info. Easy enough, sounds like. BTW, I know there's just one input but I'd be switching the upright and the electric 5er with a Radial I/O. Big Radial fan, I am, along with being a big fan of Jeff's designs.

Yes, this is correct. The Contour's can be placed in Bypass mode for either the CLEAN or DRIVE Channels. Just turn Contour control knob to FLAT.
This provides great flexibility for upright or electric instruments.

I don't think that this is a fair test as to what the BA cabs will offer you. PM me. There must be a way to have you test these out some how.
I have yet to come across anyone who has any issues hearing their mid/highs with a dual stack of BA cabs.

Anyone using the 800 head as a DI? I am kind of looking for something different for my church gig. We have a silent stage and great FOH/IEM system. I currently use a Radial JDI with my Roscoe. It's great and everyone says leave it alone. However, it is super clean, which is maybe what it should be with all the guitars and keys that are playing, but sometimes I wish I have just a little "grit" to my tone. Anyone use this as a post DI in a similar situation?
