Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

TBH never really understood the reason for huge cars until — until as a first-time guest in Kansas we drove to "the nearest town". A long ride on a ruler-straight road. There's not anything for a driver to do? Big old sitting room sofa in front of a wheel .... And in wonderment of you guys who drive the big haulers when I feel the Audi S4 is as big a car I will ever want to drive. Too big, really, but ...

Nothin' says "Murica!" like 14 feet of wheelbase!

There's the height, too. I don't care for a driving position higher than the roofs of passenger cars. Well, not that I've tried. Never been in a big rig. Expect my modesty would be put to the test getting in and out.

You would probably like it if you tried it.
You can see wayyyyy down a straight road (or to the back of the truck in front of you) and when it rains you are up out of the wheelwash of other cars.
I've posted before about the refinements in comfort level (relatively....it's still a truck!) and that where, previously, you had to contend with 10, 13, 18, even 23 gears (on roadgoing trucks, more for loggers and offroad) now, most new semi's are 10 speed automatics.
Makes in-city work much more tolerable.

As for your modesty, well, ladies have been riding horses, one way or another, for centuries.
Same, same. :)

The live music scene has slowly been sinking into obscurity. Bands playing for tips. Playing for nothing. Paying the bar to play. Playing a gig and the bar owner saying that the next gig would be at lesser payment. I feel that this virus thing will kill it for good unless we develop a powerful enough vaccine. I know that I won't risk going out to play till then.

Sports are in a similar situation. Basketball especially as the fans are so close to the players.

The world has changed and not in a good way. Concerts, movies, anything with an audience have been negatively affected. Stupid people are coming out of the woodwork. We had a demonstration outside our Provincial Legislature where a young guy was yelling into a microphone that the hospitals are empty. The Pandemic is a hoax and all restrictions should be removed. I find it sad as more and more of our Seniors pass because of this virus. Their carers are dropping one by one too.

Now that restrictions are being removed I hope and pray that we will be spared another wave of cases. I, for one, would not like to go through all this again!

Stay safe and healthy.

Maybe this forced detox from live music will make people consider how often they wasted, or took for granted, the opportunity to see bands, and give them a renewed appreciation for live entertainment.
When things spin back up, it may reinvigorate the local scene.

I know, I know.....wishful thinking.
Well, one can always hope. ;)

Maybe, but it isn't necessarily good for their underneath bits. :(

Define "good"! :roflmao:
I know I always see females sitting on the subs at gigs, and the washing machines at the laundromat!
Very few people need to ride horses anymore, but a lot do, for various........um....personal reasons.

I think we're addressing two separate subjects here, so I'll take your comment to mean that when mounting a horse, or truck, some article of clothing, meant to remain hidden, may make an appearance unexpectedly.
Is that more in step with your thoughts?

Yes, a sidesaddle might showcase [alleged] modesty but it's also a good way to break a femur when thrown just the wrong way. Anyone in the horsey set who hasn't been thrown, kicked, shoved, stomped, bitten or otherwise put in their place is a drugstore cowboy.

The sidesaddle isn't very good for the horse either.

Sidesaddle makes sense on some motorcycles. Vespa has one. It’s a common mode for ladies in Thailand as well.

Well if they ain't wearing leathers that's probably the best way to go!

Years ago on Wide World Of Sports, I recall an event where people would slide on a leather pad behind a car. They would wear a leather apron of sorts on their backside, hold on to a rear bumper while that car barreled down a racetrack, then let go. The winner was the one that slid the furthest. They’d never let that happen today.
