Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

I've got this problem where I've become addicted to breathing air. I got my first hit the day I was born, and then I wanted another, and another ...

So this is all about breathing, what with The Thing That's Going Around. Every one of us exists as a (more or less) cohesive pool of organic matter that's very much alive. And everyone has to breathe ... we all live in an organic cloud of our own life functions.

Rather we all breathe easier.

(but yeah some people just stink, and I'm not talking about the smokers)

I quit smoking and it was 20 years ago to the day on March 11, 2020. It was, hands down, the hardest thing I ever did. I was up to 2.5 packs a day when I quit; my mother, who died of complications from COPD, was smoking more than a carton a day when she went into the hospital for the last time, so I certainly had a genetic inclination to become highly addicted and it didn't go unnoticed when I gave it up. But give it up I did, and I lived to tell the tale.

Yes, it was a very different world back in the day. We could smoke in theaters, in airplanes, in restaurants, in stores... I remember going into one store and being admonished that I could only smoke in the tiled areas, not in the carpeted ones. I was one that had to have a cigarette after a meal and I'd smoke it at the table and I didn't care what dirty looks I got.

Man, times have changed, and so have I.
Good on you sister, good on you!

Life comes with one challenge after the next. Congratulations on overcoming this one and standing fast. Undoubtely one of the bigger challenges to face.

Elevators seem to be limited to a maximum of two passengers. When a car arrives and someone exits, you can smell their scents. That means that you are also breathing what they recently exhaled. No way to distance that.

I walked up eight stories yesterday to avoid taking an elevator. It used to be a cakewalk. Need to work on that.

It’s interesting to think that we are breathing the same air molecules that people did when they first appeared on this planet. The earth is a natural recycler. We are all star dust, 14 billion years old, much of the oxygen that we breath has been around in one form or another for 3.5 billion years

I remember when you could smoke on airplanes and in colleges.

Was on the porch watching the full moon rise.

Made me recall a lyric I wrote a few years ago as an exercise in imagery.

The Wizard Works Tonight

clouds pass between his failing eyes
and the bright Hunters Moon
he draws down its' energy
he’ll draw his circle soon
on an altar made of solid oak
he’ll lay his magick tools
and through the incense rising smoke
he’ll glide the tarots’ fool

“Hear my cry My Maiden
My Mother and My Crone
for the greatest rite I have not worked
comes not while I’m alone”
Earth and Water feed his desire
on this waxing night
in the chilling Air and by candles Fire
the Wizard works tonight

the waning days have passed on by
as the moon returns from new
did he see her yesterday
in the steam of his cauldrons’ brew ?
perhaps tonight by the Maidens’ grace
he’ll know the very night
and on that night he’ll know her face
and work the fertile rite

“Hear my cry My Maiden
My Mother and My Crone
for the greatest rite I have not worked
comes not while I’m alone”
Earth and Water feed his desire
on this waxing night
in the chilling Air and by candles Fire
the Wizard works tonight

now Mother is full and beyond stone walls
wind carries passionate cries
the Wizard and his mortal maiden
work the greatest rite
