Been busy for a while, so........................

Also with nice weather my thoughts turn to hot dogs.
Mmm, Nathan's!

Shatner murders every song he takes on.

I was a afraid to click Play!

...the air quality has improved so much we were able to see the Andes mountains that surround Lima most days and nights but now the fog has obscured them again. The fog rolls in off the Pacific ocean which we're a couple of miles from and the mountains keep the air locked in, Lima has its own microclimate compared to the rest of Peru...
Similar to Los Angeles (the land of a thousand smokes).

My all time favorite chipmunk encounter: stop off at very popular viewpoint park in Bend OR up on a little lava dome. RV pulls up next to us, side door opens, occupants start a not quite al fresco munch down. The wife steps down and as her foot hits the ground a Townsend's Chipmunk times his charge perfectly, right up her leg, onto the table in the RV, and straight into the bag of Cheetos. Fearless, flawless execution, a 10 for artistic expression from even the Russian judge. The crowd goes wild, finis.
We've had a couple of interesting encounters with squirrels at Yosemite over the years. While in a meadow south of the Ahwahnee Hotel one time, I had a my camera bag (Tamrac 608, for those who need to know :D) opened up, on a downed tree, whereupon, a squirrel came sauntering up the log and into the camera bag to check out what lenses I had in it. Again, for those who need to know - Canon FD lenses: 24/2.8, 35/2.8, 50/2.8 macro with 25mm extension tube (which came in handy on the longer lenses, too), 100/2.8, and 200/4, all to go with my F1n with standard finder.

Another time, we were sitting next to the Merced River, at the top of Vernal Falls, sitting on the ground having lunch, when a squirrel sauntered up my SO's leg to have a peak at the bag of dried apples she was eating. She, literally, tapped the squirrel's forehead and told him to wait his turn, then gave him a piece to eat. The squirrel patiently hung around for a while for some more. Oh, yeah, there was this marmot at Olmsted Point, one time............

For those inclined to enter, they are giving away a Radial HDI.

I have one of their stereo DIs, a ProD2, that I always have plugged into my Bass Noodles® recording rig.

when I was a kid I played trumpet in the grade and junior high schools bands and guess what I forgot at least one time when we marched? My music. Luckily the songs were simple enough I could play them by ear.
You were not supposed to memorize the music?!?!?!?

...I played tenor sax instead of my usual bass clarinet...

Yeah, I played BC in orchestra and concert band.
Like this?

Mine's your basic portable music stand (for some reason)

I got a similar one for Christmas decades ago; it would always fall over if I looked at it sideways. Kept me from reading (and learning to read) music.

Sadly I can't read music.
See above...................

Received two replacement ear pads for my Sennheiser PXC 450 cans. Ordered on the cheap from the 'zon and the process of putting the old clip rings in the new pads has me to the point of just saying forget it. ..... I'm not wasting more time fiddling with the new ear pads.
I, once, sold Sony earbuds replacement foam to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, in the late '80s. I bet he had no trouble installing those. :smug:

I can’t just stand in one place...
Try slaving in front of a hot stove printing in front of an enlarger for hours on end. ;)

Listening to this now with my wireless (noise canceling) new Sennheisers...
An old friend of mine designed and built a noise cancelling microphone system for the GD. Same guy who designed and built those PIE 4000 watt power amps for Phil Lesh. There were a couple that he (my friend) had sitting in the rafters of his garage in the '80s.

Here's a (majorly edited down from around 800 images, so far) travelogue of the porch project, up to now, starting from where we left off:

Spending this day with Odin, who is by my side (as is his preference). Odin's relationship with squirrels is a different tale. My own experience with squirrels has an antecedent.

In the course of following a lead — in a time I and my colleagues in my former line of work were not seen as enemies — discovered the bubonic plague is still very much around. And not all that far away (but completely treatable). Called Sylvatic plague - Wikipedia when it is in a state of equilibrium with the rodent populations, the cycle breaks when your average family takes the family pet dog for a picnic in the national forest. They let the dog off the lead so he can romp. Dog chases ground squirrel. Ground squirrel goes down hole. Dog sticks nose down. Exhaled dog breath excites the plague-carrying fleas, who jump on the dog's snout.

Everyone goes home, dog has bubonic plague. Dog dies, fleas find humans, everyone's unhappy. Records are verifiable, and this is what we find as a reporter.

I thought the Amish don't care to have their picture taken?

I got permission to do so. You have no idea what it's like to wait for the opportune time to catch them looking away to clack the shutter! One of them actually told me he had no issues with being photographed, but I was still careful to delete files as needed. Some others, if I post them, will get doctoring up in PS.

. . .

So that's where Frank Zappa got that title.

OK, that is too cool. That is a relatively rare Eb contra-bass clarinet. Didn't know MM played horns.

I was surprised, had no idea I could do that. I remember gulping when I realized I had forgotten it and figured well nobody will notice I'll just march, but it came to me as I marched, I was pretty happy as our band leader had sharp ears (upright bassist) and could pick you right out of the band when you screwed up or tried fooling around with the tubes as I did one day. It made the whole trumpet flat and I saw him giving me a look and asked to look at it after practice, I knew something was wrong but didn't know much at all about musical instruments although I had the ears. It's been a blessing and a curse, it made me lazy when I was young.

That’s pretty scary. I hope that Odin understands when you tell him you are keeping him on a leash for his own good.
