Nobody likes to be computer janitor. People been hawking programs to clean up computer garbage practically as long as there's been personal computers. Used to be all that was required to clean up all its garbage was turn it off.

I had considered a Win10S computer due to the excellent cost to ratio, but opted for a Dell XPS 15. Bought it over time. Windows has smartened up and made the S version much slimmer than Home so it won't bog down resources. Even a Home upgrade from S is lighter than an out of box Home version. The only downside to upgrading to Home is the never-ending updates every week, eventually needing a reset to rid tthe OS of a years' worth of upgrade crud buildup.

At our PD we still have three Lenovo's that have been running 24/7 for six years. A testament to their quality. Still sorry that a South Korean bought the company from IBM though. Probably made there anyways to begin with. No company builds PC's in the US anymore.

I'm NOT sorry, they have been innovating while keeping product quality high.
They were the ones MAKING them in the first place more than a decade ago, anyway.
I'm typing this on my Motrola G5 ( Lenovo)
3 year old, 175.00 all in smartphone.

Well I have my Android and HP laptop too. As well as a HP desktop that I rarely use. iPad is convenient.

I’ve been cleaning out old unused stuff the last two weeks.

4 printers, lots of stored garage stuff. Hard to do. Look the other way and drop in trash can.

Three Win10 Dell laptops, 3 iPads, one Dell Chromebook, three iPhones, and I had a MacBook 12 that I'm very sad I sold. It was a sweet little laptop. Weighed nothing. We are also moving to Amazon Alexa and Alexa TV's. We need an electronic reminder for our three times a day pills. Sadly I'm sometimes forgetting now. Also thinking of switching from local cable to YouTube TV. It's about half the price with more channels.

Trouble is that Abi's business stuff is on one desktop, my rescue stuff is on one, both of which have legacy software... we both like tabs for surfing in front of the tv, and needed the laptop for newer software.

I've a Win10 desktop, a 2-in-1 that's just a 1 now because the keyboard needs docking station needs replaced, and the smrtphn. The now-tablet-y thing can be pressed into duty if I need to read charts. Or something. It is/was my travel computer. Traveling's gone out of style right now.

If you think about it, computers intrude everywhere.

Radios, televisions, lighting, music and video players, microwave, stove, fridge, coffee maker, washers/dryers, furnace and air conditioning thermostats, clocks, watches, printers, multiple in a vehicle, amps, tuners, effects, keyboards, tape recorders, medical implants, even ID chips in animals... I even have one in my toothbrush.

I used to be a Windows only (starting back with 3.0) and adopted Mac @ 10 years ago under protest. (I'm in IT support as a vocation, although currently between employers, and got "volunteered" to become Seagate's Mac Expert) and found that I just prefer MacOS and hardware (strangely I dislike iOS, but prefer it on a tab, dislike it on a phone)

you can virtualize the old machines with old software (as long as it is not dependant on external hardware) easily and freely - Virtualbox. Oracle VM VirtualBox
this way it turns the entire drive into a file- easy to backup, easy to "Freeze" for disaster recovery. Usually small enough to put on a portable drive, and run it on whatever hardware you want. Depending on the file size / drive speed you can even run it directly from an external drive. IF it does not need internet, you can turn off the "network card" to protect it from viruses. The OS runs in a window on your more modern machine so you can have access to both systems at the same time.

I'm an IT Government employee so I don't have the luxury of playing with various other OS flavors. It's enough of a headache keeping our vast ubiquitous network running all our mostly cloud based programs. Dell and Microsoft have been good to me providing me a career for almost 30 years. I have no interest in other OS's on my own time. To each their own, we all have different tastes.
