Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

Well 51 is just around the corner so I suppose I should check in.
I still gig about 45 weekend nights a year.
Sadowsky NYC 5's are my main basses, at the moment I'm trying to decide if I am going to keep a Mesa Strategy 8 88, prior to that I'd been using a GB Streamliner 900 into either a custom LDS/Faital 15 duallie /GB Neox 212 or Berg AE212.
Tonight I'll be taking the Strategy and a newly acquired Fender Super Twin running into the LDS/Faital, I hope to find that the Fender will be loud enough for medium venues.
When music isn't involved I am retired from my construction company to raise our 3 kids; a 2 yo and twin 6 months olds...
No number needed as I don't keep track of these things.

I am feeling grumpy today - did carpentry work all day on a bass-room that I have been building on for almost a year. Thought I was making good progress then it hit me - I've been building this room for a year, &&***())_&^%$#!!! Now my back hurts and my fingers hurt and I couldn't play bass if I had to - good that I don't have anything up this weekend.
Yep, I am a grumpy old fart.
And I need Agedhorse to come trim my horse's feet. If I get in the horse feet trimming position I may not get out of it. Go to a gig - "Man, that bass player dude is already rockin, bending down with that bass!"

So I just did an audition. :rollno:

The guy turned up toting a Laptop with MP3s on it. I wired it up to get the music through my amp and tried to play along. It's really hard to play in tune when the music was not recorded in key!! I didn't pass! :(
Minor set back, Paul. Don't give up and start shootin' when you see the whites of their eyes...or some other kind of uplifting nonsense.

So that is the way they do it these days? I think I would have sent him on his way without trying to play with along with mp3s. I think an audition should be a 2-way street - checking each other out. Can't get a feel for the other musicians with mp3's.
Look at this as a significant opportunity for you to find what you really like.

My heart goes out to all of you old guys. How do you keep going? You have my utmost respect and admiration. I can only imagine what you're going through. :sorry:

M. M. :)
Thanks. But it's not all bad. We throw rocks at the neighbor kids and their parents are too scared to say anything. Get to pee on the side of the interstate without getting arrested. And say the gawd awfulest things to our wives, without getting killed.

That hairdo in your avatar looks like mine at that age. If you're not a GOF yet, just show an aggressive, bad attitude and you're golden.

Your time is a-comin', sonny boy! ;)

I kid. I'm 63 as of this post. Be 64 in less than two months. Yippee! I can do more than imagine what y'all are going through. I be livin' it. :p

Edit: Recently made a grumpy revision to my grumpy blog. It now contains more grumpness (sic) than ever. I like it. :sour:

bold mine
Livin the dream!
I say as I slowly, grumpily & sorely climb the stairs after I play my bass where for a few majic moments I was 40 again, thinking back to the good ol days when I was in my 20's. The good ol days are now just a blur in memory. Oh wait, they were a blur then, too! I forgot.

I'm seven years behind you. How does it feel now to play a full night? I find I'm sitting as much as I can between sets! And if we can quit early WE DO!
Same age as me.
Just 4-5 years ago I was playing metal (which I don't like), jumping around all over the stage, and coming home at 6 in the morning. Now I am thinking progressive country and coming home at 12 - 1. Or better still, wedding gig until 7 PM.
