One other thought comes to mind:
When I worked for that Berkeley Guitar Store I was asked to travel to Anaheim to go to NAMM and make purchases of instruments from Saga, Martin and Gibson. At the time I was a web developer who would do inventory control, floor and web based guitar sales for this instrument retailer in Berkeley. Not a very high ranking reality and the pay was not enough to cover my crazy SF Mortgage.
Long story short, I wound up at an offsite Gibson Dinner where they feted there Original Acoustic Instrument Dealers. People who attended included Henry J & Big Joe of Gibson, Stan Jay of Mandolin Bros, Stan Werbin of Elderly and several other important American dealers.
Since I was so low ranking in the midst of all these muckety-mucks at some point during the dinner I openly stated that the Gibson Pricing strategy was ridiculous. From not allowing dealers to publish pricing to just asking crazy and unrealistic prices for Gibson products. (Their mandolins and banjos run from about 8 to 25 grand.) I also said that everyone I know in the Bay Area was running away from anything they madee other than vintage stuff.
Finally I told the room - and directed my spiel to Henry J - this Joke:
Q: What's the best kind of pickup to put on a Gibson Banjo?
A: An F150....
(At the time that was a fresh joke nobody had heard before...)
Guys like Juskiewicz live in a constant state of delusion in which they believe that they are incapable of failure. I'm sure your remarks were duly noted !
