Uhm... Rush?

The fact that Green Day was listed before Rush made me lol. Rush should've been in the first post along with the others lol

Nonetheless, respect for Green Day as well. Not that I'm huge on their music, but I respect them nonetheless.

If talking trios, I think john zorn should be mentioned as well
Harras with william parker and derek bailey is quite excellent.
Same goes for bill frisells' trio albums with the likes of dave holland and ron carter.
Dave holland triplicate is an excellent trio album as is "brand new" by marc copland john abercrombie and kenny wheeler.
John scofield shinole, out like a light, this meets that, en route ,come to mind as well.

Gotta go with Klaus486... The John McLaughlin Trio with Kai Eckhard and Trilok Gertu. I was stunned to see this got to page 5 before these guys got mentioned. During the same era he did the trio thing with Dominic DePiazza (sp?) as well. The interplay between these guys is so sublime.
