I don't name mine either, but my late wife always called my Vintage White MIJ P-Bass my "Banana Pudding" bass.

Every bass that I have ever loved enough to name has inevitably met an unfortunate demise.

After realizing this, I quit naming my musical instruments.
I do, however, name all of my guns.

Shamefully, I own about 17 basses (many will be up for sale).............of the 17, only a few have names.

One is called, The '53. Because it is indeed a 1953 Precision Bass.

Another one is called, Reverso because it is a P Bass with reversed pickup coils.

Another one is called, The Cowboy Bass. A Tele Bass with a split coil pickup and a lower section pickguard made of real cow hide with hair.

The only bass I named is my current one. A buddy of mine asked what she was called and on the spur of the moment I named her Scarlet. I figured it was appropriate being where as she's black cherry burst in colour.

While a little lame-ish, I always thought naming instruments was kinda fun. I avoid giving them female-aligned names because it just comes off as a little creepy IMO. Gender-neutral names are the way to go!
