This is an interesting exercise - I have a couple of lists in my computer, with serial numbers, price when purchased (for some of them), etc. But I also found a file in my computer called "" - turns out I went through this exercise 10 years ago! Thank goodness, 10 years on I'm not sure I'd have been able to generate the list as accurately!

Turns out I've owned 28 basses in a little under 40 years, and still have 14. Only 6 in my first 15 years, took 7-8 years off, the rest during the next 10, haven't bought a new bass in almost 10 years...

Basses that I don't own anymore/sold or traded: 80's Westone (my first bass), Spector NS-1, Alvarez, Carvin LB75, Squire Jazz, Ibanez ATK fretless, Steinberg Spirit 5, Dean Edge 5, Dean Rhapsody 12, Fender Jazz fretless, Michael Kelly Dragonfly 5, NS Design electric upright, Carvin Icon 5 fretless.

Out of all these basses, I miss the Ibanez ATK fretless the most.

I started playing bass in 2005.
I had one bass for first 4 years.
then I joined Talkbass.....let's just say all hell broke loose.
There were years I'd go thru 15 or so, others 8-9ish.
I don't know an accurate count,
But I'd say about 120, based on 10 or so average per year for 12 years.

I'd say in 2021 I'm not slowing down much... 6 in and 6 out thru April.

I did quite a bit of horse trading when I was just starting to mess around on bass just to try things out, see what I liked and didn't like, learn what I found comfortable to play, etc.. By the time I actually had time in my schedule that allowed me to get out there and start playing with others, I already had a small collection that suited me extremely well.

That collection has 5 basses that keep me virtually GAS free.

Not weird, I cataloged my Clutch, out of paranoia, Had a friend kinda covet my #1&2! so wanted to keep track of upgrades & serial#'s just in case... Also i was frequently asked about all the Modds/Upgrades I made.
It was fun, plus It helped me rationalize why I have so many Basses! +10!!

I currently have 4, but hardly ever play the TBird and don’t even have strings on the TMB100 that i pulled the frets off last summer, so really only count my Tony Franklin and fretless Player Jazz.

at 10 +, first 5 were just greed, last 5 were all special ( fretless, 5 string acoustic & active) crazy cuz I only really need 2/1.started building them which is a blast but hard to stop.. plus you have extra parts! to start over!
