Is everyone okay??

I'm fine, thank you. And you? Hope all is well. I haven't noticed any more animosity than usual on TB. As a rule, we're a pretty well heeled bunch. Maybe some of the sarcasm meant as humor wasn't deciphered as such. Speaking audibly has the advantage of the voice inflection, timbre, guttural amount (and other qualities we try so hard to get our instruments to mimic) that is lacking in a printed format. How you speak a sentence is as important as the words are. This may be the reason for either the amount of misunderstandings or bad behavior resulting from them. Have a great night.

I suppose it's my turn. This isn't easy for me, that's for sure.

I am a strange breed for where I'm situated in the world, that being Australia. On my father's side, I am the typical Anglo-European convict mutt we all joke about. My mother is of Cherokee decent, coming to Sydney when she was a child. I definitely have the look.

So, with small Aussie towns being stuck in the 1950s and all, I'm not even going to go into what I would experience on a relatively frequent basis all through school and even well into the present day. It's a thing I've learnt to accept. It's less frequent, but I'm not gonna lie to y'all and say it doesn't pop up from time to time. Mostly, it just makes me sad and makes me relive past trauma. It doesn't make me angry like it should. But I'm rambling like a motherfunker here..

Other than that and other issues I'm dealing with, I am doing pretty well. I have so many hobbies, I have a job I actually love and a girlfriend who I absolutely worship. Seven years clean, and it's been a long time since I even thought about it. I'm approximately 45 lbs heavier and I actually look healthy. It's a huge turnaround from someone who was shooting a $400-$500 a day habit.

Anyhoo. That's me in a half shell. Sorry if any of this saddened y'all.

After going through this thread, I gotta say. I'm great. It was full of sadness and despair but it was also full of understanding and appreciation. It's a slice of nice.

I accept that I may have read a few things incorrectly, and that is easy to do, like you said. But it's been a bit more than that in certain threads. No matter. I think we're good now. I really like the idea of doing this on a monthly basis. A community hang/check in/healthy vent session.

I'm good. I started a new career recently though, and that's eaten into my spare time. I'm actually in that usually-******** quandary where I actually don't have time to play bass and screw around on the internet like I used to. Consequently I haven't been around TB much. Still, hey nerds!

I’m doing great!

I’m 58 years old and my band Lips Turn Blue is about to release our debut album! Our singer passed away just as we were finishing recording. He was incredibly proud of this project. We promised him we’d get it out and it’s happening. We have a great record company and a fantastic manager behind us. One of my musical heroes, who I don’t know and have never met, even went out of his way to send an email saying nice things about my playing on the record.

it’s been hard and we’ve face so many hurdles trying to get this record released. The lesson is Don’t Give Up. You never know what kind of positive things are right around the corner.

What is a "record"?

I enjoy coming here. Yes, there are PvJ (and other tired) comments and "get off my lawn" comments but there also positive ones. I come to see what's going on, get playing info, see gear acquisitions and comment on threads that are interesting to me. I'm ok...still performing 3-4 times per month, rehearsing weekly and practicing daily.

Really good, thank you!! Even with the attempts to rattle us all, turn us against each other and generally wreck our lives, I find the people I know more solid than ever. Old friendships and family ties that were good BEFORE the pandy are even stronger now. I DO believe a lot of us have utterly lost all tolerance for BS and want our lives as free of it as possible. I will say...SOMETIMES...a thing is just a joke...and it would do us all a world of good if it was okay once again, to just have a goof on things. Not telling you what's funny or how to feel...just a friendly "hey...it's just a joke" reminder...deep breath, move along. I gotta say, Talkbass is easily one of the saner places on the internaut highways and even the looniest of you is welcome in OUR home for a cup of coffee and a tune or two. LOTS of great people assembled here...thanks for your friendship and knowledge~

The endless threads on P vs J, what color pickguard? what flats should I buy? Etc. become very tiresome.

Excellent advice! Decrease TB and increase practice time.
