Is It Really Too Much to Ask?

I'm kind of with the OP. For the money you spend on a stock fender, it would be nice not to have to go out and spend another 25-50% to make it what you want. Being a five string player - some fretless -it's way worse than those of you who just deal with the four stringers. First it's hard to find the Fender P 5 string used, so new is really the only option. They don't seem to be available in MIM or even the Squier line. So $1500 + for a MIA "low level" Fender P V as they offer it. In my case I'd like it in a fretless version (yes I know the "P" means frets, but I want the pups and the simple passive controls- why do I have to go out and drop another $500 for a new neck? It's actually pretty rude and probably the reasons I've been so resistant to Fender products.

I also have a USA Peavey Fury that I like, and is a good instrument - but it is not on par with my USA Fenders... I'm the opposite of the OP when it comes to necks, though - I actually prefer 1.65" at the nut necks as opposed to the much thinner neck of the Fury... but that isn't the only reason why it isn't on par with my USA Fenders - it just isn't as solid, nor as well made as the Fenders...View attachment 3268117
The Fury has the feel, neck, comfort and weight I would love in a P bass style bass even though I agree with you, it's not on par with a US Fender in terms of quality and sound- but it gives me something to work with. I plan on changing the electronics and pickups to get it a little closer to a US Fender in sound and this should serve as my P bass alternative, I love Fender basses mind you, I do love my Jazz bass but weight and comfort of a bass is becoming more of an issue as I approach the golden years.

Come on - buy the body, neck, pickup(s), bridge and electronics you want. A one time deal, a life time of musical bliss.

Until you turn 50 and NEED a burst finish...

But you're already around $2k in? Save a bit more and call FCS. Seriously. Or choose not to play 5 stringers; there are other ways to skin that cat too.

For you and the OP both: these are choices you've made. Now you're coming on here and complaining about that, to people who can't fix your problem, or who suggest fix after fix that just gets pooh-poohed. Good luck with all that.

OP, I understand that you feel they would simply just bolt on a different neck to an already made p bass body, but then they'd also have to manufacture 1000s of them and have them sent all over the world to be put in stores. At this point they're taking retail space away from the models that they know do sell. Perhaps their research shows that this is not in their best interest. They'd probably rather have products that fly off the shelf and get reordered more often.

I cannot speak for others, but speaking for myself, I did not feel it was a useful use of my time to read all of this thread. I know it might come as somewhat of a disappointment, but not everyone reading the thread shares your same passion about the issue, nor may they all share your same degree of anger towards Fender for their product decisions.

On public forums like this, I generally divide threads into three broad categories:
a. Request for help or information, and follow up thereto
b. Proclamation of satisfaction or delight with a newly acquired product or technique, and follow up thereto
c. Misdirected personal complaint being aired publicly with no hope of fruitful outcome

Although I largely categorize this thread to be of the third type, it is still within my nature to try to help people to the extent possible, and I am lying in bed with the flu and feeling like I am inches from death, and I had nothing better to do with my time right now then see if I could find some way to help you with some aspect of your issue, which leads me to the next point...

Bingo!
Please trust me on this, you need to buy this thing and use it for about 15 or 20 minutes per day:

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Buy that or a sunbox or equivalent 10000K light designed to treat SAD.
All you have to do is sit in front of it and read your emails or read the newspaper or whatever you do at the breakfast table, and after two or three days, you will feel like a new man. I promise.
If it does not work for you, PM me and I will buy it from you for the full price paid plus shipping. I could use another one upstairs.

Sounds like option C to me. I mean it's the flu... what are we gonna do about it? ;)

Isn't that what the Camaro evolved into? For example, IRS on a Camaro?

GM listened. And to further the analogy, one can get a Camaro in any number of flavors, from plain-jane to justplainstupidfast. If this was Fender, we could get a p-bass the same as we could with G&L, with a boatload of options at a fair and limited extra charge, not the crazy upscale pricing of the Custom Shop.
Can you get one with a Corvette body?

Maybe I got lucky, but my Fury sounds really close to my all original '76 P bass - so, sound isn't an issue for me... The weight is nice, although not significantly lighter than my Fender P basses - but it does make a good match for the guitarist's main axe in a trio I play in, and I only have $150 into it including the OHSC... Although I prefer a standard P bass neck, I don't have a problem playing Jazz width necks - here it is at an opener for Jackyl:

In response to the original question (thread title) and the pile-on of responses: Yes. Yes, it apparently is too much to ask. Even though it would be simple as shot, it's way too much to ask.

What Fender could make out of spare parts lying around SHALL NEVER BE YOURS!

This is the silliest thread I have ever participated in here. Bowing out now. Happy New Year, everyone.

not easy as a Warmoth is not Fender...
Any warmoth to me completely buried any Fender I have tried)...
People get stuck on that logo at the end...

I'm all about sound and play-ability (I'm assuming like most) and with being said...Fender comes up short to the wood quality, fretwork and aftermarket parts over building a warmoth.

Others are stuck on a decal.

The totality of this thread is comical.

"I want a Fender, but I don't like what Fender makes"

"Then buy something else"

"But, I want a Fender"

Not quite...:roflmao:

I like Fender just fine I own 6 of them (Now) I just don't understand why they make the choices they make

I already own something else configured the way I want

They should make this as an option...it's a no brainer
