Carol Kaye doesn't understand how the internet works, because she is going after a torrent tracker site, and they have "nothing to do" with the infringement.

Well gee, the DMCA notice above tends to render that assertion pretty well null and void, right?

Sure - the torrent streams are still "out there" - but they're not available on THAT site anymore.

She's doing the right thing here, even if her manner is not agreeable to people.

She didn't go after a torrent tracker site. Read the thread before commenting. She went after a blog that reports news about torrent sites, mostly legal in nature, not a tracker site. And then reacted in a less than stellar manner when several people tried to calmly explain her mistake and point her in the direction of the real pirates. She also tried to go after Google for allowing people to search.

Just because you do a session doesn't mean you don't care for the songs. Look at Justin Meldal-Johnsen for an example. He gets hired to do sessions because people know he fits into and shares their styles. Because he enjoys those styles he can bring positive and constructive feedback to projects.

Sessions musicians are still real musicians, and the music they play is every bit as real as what everyone else plays.

What...ROFLMAO...so every single song you play you like?.. When you are a pro you play lots of songs you may or may not like. Its part of the being a musician. Do you honestly think that someone who has a hit 30 or so years ago likes playing it after all that time? By the way session work can be some of the most demanding work a musician can do, and many session players from Carols era where the absolute best in the business.

Shouldn't she have learned by now that if you're going to embark on something you know nothing about, and hope to succeed, perhaps you should first consult with someone who has at least SOME knowledge of that field?? HOW DO YOU GET TO BE 74 YEARS OLD AND NOT KNOW THAT?!

I'm not saying she's stupid because she's not tech savvy or internet savvy. I'm saying she's stupid because she is trying to succeed at something and shutting out all people who approach her with actual knowledge of that subject.

I understand that there is a huge generational gap between my generation and those previous because of all the technological advances made in the last 2-5 decades. However, my problem with this situation isn't the misunderstanding of technology- it's the complete and utter lack of common sense.

I don't care if you were born in 1986 like me, 1886, or 1492. If you want to accomplish something, and you know nothing about how to go about it, you ask someone that does. You research and gather information before taking any actions that may be counterproductive to what you're trying to accomplish. This has nothing to do with technology. It's basic common sense that is as old as human beings.

If your father wanted to do something successfully and didn't know how, I'm sure he would consult with someone. Even if he didn't, I'm sure he wouldn't totally ignore someone who came to him and tried to help. To do so would be, as I said earlier, completely ********.

Hes not saying that. If your grandfather were to try and go after torrenting without first researching and finding out whats what(what Carol is doing) then thats what hes saying. Lack of knowledge does not make someone "********". Having a lack of knowledge, having it pointed out to you, then REFUSING to alter your stance or view, thats not "********" but borderline insane.

I'm not sure age should be an excuse for ignorance especially in legal matters. I wouldn't expect her to understand it, I would expect her to figure it out if shes threatening people with legal recourse.

I mean my grandfather figured it out just fine by himself. I'm sure if she was planning to sue one of the largest companies on the planet for 'hosting' her copyrighted material she should have considered technical council.

First post was more frustrated because I had just read the entire thread and was in shock, but it says the same thing.

the part you had a problem with I still stand by. The idea of going after something and trying to be successful while ignoring all help and input of those who are in the know is ridiculous and shows a total lack of common sense. One can still be a revolutionary in some fields with no common sense, but it doesn't excuse it.

I think it's ridiculous to bash her playing or her career because she is acting like an idiot in this matter. However, I think it's equally ridiculous to attempt to justify her actions by using her age, career or her talent. In my eyes, it doesn't matter what she does for a living. I just fail to understand how someone can get to her age without knowing basic aspects of human interaction, and how to use other people's knowledge to help yourself. Maybe she wasn't always like this, maybe she was. But in this case, she's acting like the crazy old lady down the block who won't let the kids walk on the sidewalk in front of her house.

Having received emails from her on the matter, I'll vouch that it was most likely real. She acted like a child. She seems to like accusing people of being liars, maybe she thinks we're all pirates out to get her.
