Joe dart .. Ernie ball jazz !

But bear in mind that SBMM has absolutely nothing at all to do with EBMM.
Well that's not true. Yes, I know they have different owners and management, I know about the licensing arrangement, but that is a business arrangement that both sides chose to enter into. SBMM has EBMM’s permission to produce instruments that look (and to a reasonable degree sound) like EBMM instruments, they have permission to use trademarked names with "by Music Man" on every headstock (and they use the name "Stingray"), and both brands are marketed together in that their two websites prominently link to each other. That is a clear relationship. Different to the relationship between, say, Gibson and Epiphone, but clearly a relationship nonetheless.

I think the general consensus among EBMM players, is that Praxis naming the brand "Sterling by Music Man" was a really misjudged decision.
I don't know what the companies themselves think, but I'm pretty sure almost everyone else thinks using "Sterling" in the name was a terrible idea that has done nothing but cause confusion to customers of both companies.

Not justifying the cost. But the entire EBMM proceeds from the first run Cliff Williams sig went to charity. That was in the marketing blast.
I know, but I kind of put that into the context of the post I was quoting, “…but they’ll buy ‘em…”
Meaning that every single one of those CW Stingray’s was sold quite quickly…so yes, people WILL buy it.

Disagree. If you come onto a thread like this about a signature bass and you only come here to say "I don't even know who that is," you are adding less than nothing to the discussion, arguably trolling and at least opening the possibility that you are inferring that it means something, when all it really means is that you don't know anything worthwhile to contribute - so why would you take the trouble to do that unless it was some weird point of pride or you were trying to pick a beef?

Of course no one should be ashamed for not knowing who someone is. I never said that. I said they should keep it to themselves. Because it isn't interesting or valuable to the discussion. If someone wants to be that guy, fine I guess. Not knowing something is nothing to be ashamed about. Flaunting it....well, sometimes it can be.

Let's put it this way. I had a Marcus Miller bass for years. I knew he had played with Miles, but I basically didn't know who he was (because he's not Ron Carter). I wouldn't have come on a thread like this saying "I don't even know who this guy is!" It only would say something about ME, and nothing about the TOPIC. It's not valuable data in any sense of the word.

I take your point, but it's just possible that this stuff gets taken a bit to seriously around here sometimes?

These sort of threads seem to break down into tribal, everything is either black or white wars. It's like one eyed sports team supporters. Sure the comment you responded to was possibly pointless, in terms of any discussion about a new bass, but the thread was already heading in another direction by then. Fans of Mr. Dart get defensive, non fans say something dumb, or make a joke and the thread goes where these things usually go.

I'll admit I probably shouldn't have added to the possibility of this thread being another bin fire.

can i just buy the knobs?:bassist:

Probably on ebay, Reverb, AliExpress, or somewhere like that. As someone already said, they're copies of old RCA knobs, probably find them for a couple of bucks each.;)

Here you go, just Googled them, $1.85 each, they come in black and a sort of plum color too. (amplifierparts.com)

Wow...

I didn't think I'd see so much hate on a bass. Looks like some insecurities are showing front and center.

"I don't know Joe Dart"
"there's no tone knob"
"looks boring and expensive"
"it can only do one thing"

Joe Dart can play circles around most of us, plays in 2 stellar bands that put on great performances and I'm pretty sure all of you have tone shaping controls on your amps and pedalboards. Why are you all so bent out of shape about a bass without a tone knob?

I think you should look back at your posts and see how childish you sound bashing a killer bassist with his own signature series. Jealous much?

ha! yes. great comment. Listening to this form of funk is an interesting experience. I mean, it IS funky in a slick sort of way. And yet, it kind of feels hyper produced (as in "music major funk") While I get the great groove, I'm personally more of an old school funk appreciator myself.

I guess I kind of feel the same way about Joe Dart and Vulfpeck. It's hard to argue that they don't bring it, they play well and they seem honestly committed to the genre ... and it's cool that younger cats are bringing the joy like they do, but it all kind of feels sort of like an imitation (a very good one mind you).

Ah well, to each his own.

back to the OP's thread about the Joe Dart II bass

Yes. My thoughts. Very talented band and Joe is a skilled player. For me being me, it is the hipster version of tower of power, without the soul. It is not funk, it is funky and fun for a few minutes. Kind of like the sig bass.
