Don't know much about them but I'll say this - that's a sharp looking bass:

What kind of pickups or preamp or both can I install to make it sound like a jazz bass? Yeah, "jazz bass" is a general sounding term...just need it to pass a blind test so it sounds like a jazz yet plays like a Lakland.

Edit: the 55-01 that is.

I'd try the big singles from Aguilar.

I am now a Lakland owner. I waited about 20 years (part of that was a non-bass playing hiatus) before I was able to get one. This Skyline 44-01 is fantastic! Great sound. Great wood grain-pattern. It's also surprisingly light for an ash body.

I played my 44-01 a while last night. It sounds great. Playing it at rehearsal tonight. Should be fantastic. I peeled the clear plastic off my pickups and noticed a small whitish blemish on one of them. I was able to "buff" most of it off, but it's still there. It's not a big deal.

That being said....if I were to splurge and get a pair of those wonderful wooden pickup covers, where would I find some of these? Who makes them? Are covers for a Bartolini MK1 easy to find?

Sweetwater has some pretty exotic top 55-94's in. I do NOT dig the black headstocks or the black and gold hardware though... The douglas fir one almost looks like a redwood grain pattern...

Not sure WHY they put the black headstock on the koa... The top is gorgeous
