Meris Enzo Synth Pedal

Reviving this thread to ask a question. Does anyone know how well the Enzo tracks faster 16th notes in Mono mode when the Filter Env knob is turned to "Off"? I'm specifically interested in that particular setting in case position of the envelope knob affects how well it tracks at all.

in order to connect Meris pedals to their editors, do I need both something like the qconnect (or Midi I/O) and a Roland UM-One?

I do not have an Enzo, but the answer is Yes for the Hedra and Ottobit Jr. I use a Meris MIDI w a yamaha MD-BT01 to let my ipad communicate w Meris for TouchOSC templates and a Roland UM-One for my PC when using the editor(s).

great, thanks!

I actually don't have a Enzo either, but I recently got their first 3 pedals (Mercury7, Polymoon, and Ottobit Jr.), and this seemed like one of the more active Meris threads. how do you like the Meris Midi? I'm crazy new to all of this midi/programming stuff, and I don't know if the Morningstar MC6 I plan on getting will render that functionally useless...

If you go for the MC8 instead you can skip the connecting MIDIBox as the MC8 has dedicated TRS midi ports. I bought an MC6 and loved it. I only had it a few weeks and then they launched the MC8 so I got that for the extra buttons and functionality.

Bi directional ports are not required to send midi PC to the enzo. I used the chase bliss midibox. Worked fine.
Because it's one way, you cannot read the patches off the pedal. Or have the editor update when moving the pedal controls.

Which editor?
And in what way wont they function?
These programs are editors & librarians. They pull data off the pedal. At startup they send messages to the pedal, if the pedal does not respond the editors will not send commands.
In addition to the editor for the Enzo, I have also created editors for Polymoon, Hedra, Mercury7, and Ottobit Jr.

So far I am digging this synth, I like the core tone ALLOT.

I am having the same frustrating issue with the Enzo as I did with the Source Audio stuff. I just can't seem to get the filter, in any setting, to open wide from down low. The dynamics aren't there. If I want the filter to open up all the way I need to set the cut off to 2:00 or higher. This includes fast envelope settings, both envelope modes and max and min sustain. I do get the gorgeous sweep I want if I move the cutoff manually, so I now the funk is in there!!

Am I doing something wrong or is this just a pedal limitation?

Curious that Source Audio and Meris have the same low dynamic range issue.

On the bright side, I have achieved a near perfect lead synth tone from the ENZO. Because I don't have control over the amp envelope to hide artifacts I use low res on the filter envelop to muffle any glitch on the attack. Then I run through the Octavius Squeezer for resonant filtering and the out put is the beautiful lead I have always wanted to play from bass articulation but haven't achieved...till now!:bassist: I prefer fuzz->filter for single oscillator fast envelop synth bass tones as the tracking is perfect even for mutes and dead notes. In a synth pedal I am looking for some dual oscillator bass and the ever elusive gooey synth lead, Meris delivers both tones fantastically. If only I can find a way to open up the envelope it will be perfect.

@Quatschmacher

I have, I sold the FI but do want to try again now that the new firmware was release. Mod matrix is legendary! But damn that price tag, I got a few ahead of it on my short list.

FI was great but I kept preferring tones from my Moog Minitaur and modified Roland JX-3p on tracks and needed to pad the cost for a Prophet 12. You need to understand, I get really bad GAS;-)

It’s been on offer for quite a bit at €300. There have been quite a few used ones on Basschat recently. The v3 firmware is a huge upgrade.

I'm trying to understand what you are trying to get out of the filter. It has two modes, the triggered sweep envelope and the envelope follower like a regular funky filter.

If you are using the envelope follower, turn down the sustain all the way, turn the filter env knob upto about 3 o'clock, set the frequency below noon. Now send a bright note (tone open or treble up on the bass) just to see if you can get the trigger to happen. If you do, adjust your brightness to ride the filter as you need. As you make your bass signal less bright, turn up the sensitivity (filter env) to make up the difference. You can also send a louder signal to the input to try to force the filter open. If you want the filter to stay more open, use the sustain to help, but only a bit. Now you can adjust as you need.

The trigger filter needs you to stop playing, or have a dynamics change that crosses it's threshold. Make sure you have the filter set to go up, and the frequency set low (same starting point as above). Try to pluck a note, let the filter sweep, mute, then play again. In this mode you can turn up the sustain, and the triggering should work the same. I find the triggered filter sweep to miss the point a bit on Enzo because it closes fully, meaning it mutes sound. I would prefer it sustained after the attack & decay phase.

Edit: I agree, the core sound is great! The filter tones are also great! Following it up with a different filter sounds great too. Just missing that little bit in the middle.
