Mini Rigs of Doom Four

By the way, the Veloster has gobs of room and is not just for mini rigs. If y'all will excuse me going a bit off topic, check out how much room is available in the Veloster Turbo:

That's a Fender 6x10, with a Super Bassman head in front of it. I could have easily fit an 8x10 (and then put the head in the front seat). I also have two basses (could have fit more), a GRAMMA pad, stands, wireless, camera bag, backup head (Markbass Big Bang) and more, and I still had room for a passenger! :hyper: :bassist:  :D

Awesome !!!

I can fit my TC115 in the back with the back hatch cover on and the back seats up. Really good room in these cars for looking so small.

Yeah, I've been using the AudioKinesis Hathor (which is about the same size at the TC115) at practice a lot, and it disappears with room to spare in the back (with the seats up).

And its cardboard brother (also in action):

Nice to see markbass branching out into more solid cabinet designs...looks like a winner!

What does knob position have to do with power output?

How about this. I'll admit to knowing nothing of electrical engineering if you explain how to safely run 400 watts into a 200 watt speaker since it apparently doesn't involve knobs. I asked the question because I'm interested in a similar setup but don't want to ruin any speakers due to my obvious ignorance.

You really can't - you'll always be one accident away from needing new drivers :( . Dunno about yous guys but having a dirty jack or the cord come loose from the bass causes a full power buzz on my rigs.

First, I'll apologize for my sarcasm (or whatever it was). Beyond that, you don't have to try to use all 400 watts. If you listen for signs of distress (can't really watch for 'em with Ampeg's pretty grill cloth), don't boost the low end too much (or hammer on the B string of a 5-string bass) and don't expect too much out of a sealed 2x10, I wouldn't worry.

You'll probably cringe when I tell you that I routinely drive 200W speakers with amps rated to deliver more than 1000W at quiet gigs and rehearsals. I've also driven high performance cars without exceeding the speed limit. It's mostly about paying attention and using common sense; act a fool, and you'll be replacing fried drivers/getting speeding tickets.

Keep in mind that (1) loudspeaker power ratings are largely meaningless; and (2) doubling the power of an amplifier results in a 3dB increase in SPL. To make your speakers play twice as loud (a 10dB increase) requires ten times the power.

Hope this helps. :)

Here is my new mini GK rig of doom. Fusion 550 and two GK Neo 112-II cabs. I don't miss my old big cabs in the least. This thing sounds sweet! I guess the head wouldn't be considered mini since it's not a 'Micro' head , but the cabs sure are at 30 Lbs each.

My rig. I can carry altogheter the bass, the amp and the EUB. Since we own our FOH, I don't need more. I ran a submix from the console with vocals and guitars in the aux in of my amp, so it serves also as a monitor.
