Morley M2 Cliff Burton Fuzz Wah

I'm gna go ahead and get this Sig pedal even if it isn't the perfect cliff sound. I loved his solo sound but his regular tone not so much. I always thought newsteds tone on garage days re-revisited was solo bad ass. Esp crash course. Never found out what he used.

I can get close to the volume swell sounds that come before this (with the volume pedal function of the PWF and lots of reverb)

That was one of Cliff's Aria basses (most likely a Black 'n gold, because he holds it on the rear cover)
I had one once and it really nailed that sound.

I understand the desire to emulate Cliff Burton's tone and unique style; he was definitely a unique bright light in a musical style that didn't generally showcase stand-out bassists.

But the desire to emulate Jason Newsted???!!!?!!? Wow. I would assume one would either have to break a few fingers or at the very least tape a few fingers together to play like him:



For maximum laughter at the suckage contained therein, just check out around the 4 minute mark; the sounds of pure ass will delight you.

I remember when I first heard the remixes of "...and Justice for All" online with the bass turned up and as a bass player, I was torn. I NEVER call for "less bass" in anything. But, when I heard Jason's incredibly sloppy playing on "Blackened" with his mind-numbingly horrible tone juxtaposed against Hetfield's super tight controlled precise rhythm, I knew that this, if fact, was one instance where a recording sounded much, much, MUCH better with the bass turned way, way, WAY down.

I COMPLETELY understand why they took Jason out of the mix. You just can't go from the thickness, excitement, identifiable style, tone, and metal mastery of Cliff Burton to the ass-cheese omelette of Jason Newsted without drastically changing the band. Which, coincidentally, is exactly what Metallica did when they finally turned Jason up on their next album, aka the sell-out of the century. Jason's style, antics, lack of finesse, tone, sloppiness, and musical disability fit 90's era "'Tallica" perfectly. Just horrible.

I preordered mine from pit bull audio on eBay.

They accepted my best offer of 140 shipped.. It was like an instant acceptance, so for those interested you can probably go a bit lower.

Not sure what everyone else has been paying, but I though some folks might find this helpful.

This is going to be my 5th Wah (including another newer Morley), and I'm hoping it scratches the itch. I was going to get one of the originals, but I'm hoping this will be just as nice.

Wow, you sure have alot of hate for Jason newsted!! Obviously you never heard "Flotsam and Jetsam".... And I'm sure lots of "'tallica" fans will flame me, but have you heard "whiplash" bass tracks?? I was appalled!! You talk about debut albums and why Jason was mixed waaaay down, his playing is solid, to the above YouTube clip, I wouldn't play my best if I had 2 control freaks cutting me down either, he probably lost alot of motivation by that time, he was a beast!!

All I gotta say is cliffs actual bass playing ain't all that on the debut though he got better later on, it seems people remember him for his soloing and stage presence/attitude, and he did write some brilliant stuff, but do you think Metallica should've just hung it up when he passed?? ..i love the 1st four albums, but just being able to solo well doesn't mean poopie if you can lay down a groove, yeah make excuses, whatever, lie to yourself and say "this is the most amazing, etc, etc, cliff is god, etc, etc...",
Cliff inspired me because of what I thought he was doing, turns out I was really just inspired by James's rhythm tracks all along
