Most "embarrassing" song.....

All Summer Long by Kid Rock. I hate playing it so much. It's not Werewolves of London or Sweet Home Alabama. It's just a douchy pop country esque song that rips both of those two off. But we play a lot of places where people love that terrible song and if we played Werewolves of London instead, more people would be confused than happy. It makes me sad. And I'm 35. It's not like either of the original songs are in my era but if I was watching a bar band and heard that intro, I'd be like, "kick ass...they're rocking Warren Zevon". Just saying...

Bringing Home a Baby Bumble Bee

I learned it for my oldest daughter when she was a baby. (She's 9 now.)

Now I use it on stage as a lesson to guitar players who take too long to tune. If there is silence for more than about 5 seconds I break out some Bumble Bee and play it until they are done tuning.

I've used the same song for the same reason. Funny! Recently I've been playing The Man On The Flying Trapeze when there's a lull on stage for whatever reason.

After years of resistance I finally capitulated to play one and only one Bon Jovi song and then only because it was a special request of my guitar players young daughter (prompted by her Bon Jovi fanatic mom no doubt). I think it was “Living on a Prayer” but I’ve tried to mentally block it from my memory. I hid behind the drummer while we played it and promised that I’d rather set my gear on fire than play it again. They penciled in “Wanted Dead or Alive” for the next gig, I think as a joke, and I flat out refused.

This sums up how I feel about Bon Jovi...

Lovefool by The Cardigans. It's that, "love me, love me", song from the mid- or late-1990's. It was one of the songs I had to learn when I did some pick ups for a local cover band several years ago. Playing that song felt almost insulting to my manhood.
Funny story: I have no idea why, but when this song came out, it was the first song that I ever REALLY noticed the bass on. As a teenager learning guitar, it made me go, "Oh. Bass is pretty cool." In hindsight that bassline kinda sucks, but for some reason it cut through to me and is probably the reason I play bass today. Go figure.

I had to learn and play 'Time After Time' at my brother-in-law's wedding. I know it's a crowd-pleaser but I absolutely hate it. Still can't listen to anyone's version of it without cringing.

Is the shed on fire before you begin the nailing or do you ignite it once you put down the hammer?

Just trying to get the visuals correct.
I, on the other hand was DESPERATELY trying to prevent my brain from forming visuals. That comment pretty much foiled those plans ..... :spit:

I like that bass line though. I wish we could trade most embarrassing songs like cards.
I get most embarrassed when the singer cant pull it off but doesn't know it, regardless of song, or when i play one of my originals and somebody who knows me well starts talking to me about my personal life and the song lyrics after. Ugh....

Back in the 70's one band I was in would play a very short song segment before we went on break. "Hey everybody, we're gonna take a short 5 minute break, be back in 20 minutes". One "song" that we played, minus the vocals, was the theme song from the TV show "Green Acres", which I'm sure a lot of you young 'uns have probably never heard. Yeah, the one with the lyrics, "Green Acres is the place to be, farmin' is the life for me ...". It DOES have a catchy riff. :smug:

BUT i Like Green acres!

Many years back I had to learn 7 Nation Army. I hated that song and still do, but people loved it when I had to play it. IDK why? :rollno: :vomit:
One of my favorite tunes to play- I can hear each note of my bass and the crowds LOVE it. Little to no guitar drowning me out. What's not to like? (But you do have to have good technique to do it justice because there is no room for error).

I was at a wedding reception where I heard a certain infamous song by the Outthere Brothers get played. Complete with choreography by the band who seriously needed to have their heads examined. The groomsmen, who were the parties responsible for requesting it, thought “it would be funny.”

It was pretty excruciating sitting through it. Especially in mixed company. My SO had a look in her eyes the could have cracked slate.

When it was over, the crowd had the same expression on their faces you’d have after just witnessing an Airbus crash. Up close.

Nobody was amused.

Magic memories.
