Most "embarrassing" song.....

Back in the 80's I was in a wedding band and the singer was LATE for the gig !!!! The band made me sing the songs in order to start on time.. I was avoiding a song since I did not want to sing it.... Finally the band said you cant keep pushing the song further in the set list...you MUST sing it NOW .... I was sweating and ready to puke if I had to sing this song..and just then the singer showed up to save me... He was stuck in traffic on the L.I.E. ... The song was " I will Survive" ... by Gloria Gaynor ... I really dodged a bullet on that one..LOL

I hooked up with a cool drummer. It's just her and I, so I told her for starters she can pick any cover she wants, figuring she'd come up with Sex Pistols or Buzzcocks or something like that. No. She wants to do a No Doubt (:vomit:) song, and if that isn't bad enough it's among their lamest. "I Throw My Toys Around" was written for the soundtrack to the Rugrats movie. Yuck! But I sucked it up and listened to it repeatedly (once was too much) and figured out the bassline, which is always good practice for me, no matter how unpalatable the tune.

One of my favorite tunes to play- I can hear each note of my bass and the crowds LOVE it. Little to no guitar drowning me out. What's not to like? (But you do have to have good technique to do it justice because there is no room for error).
Good technique to play it??? Lol, that is the easiest song in the world to play which is one reason I don't like it. :roflmao:

I had to learn and play 'Time After Time' at my brother-in-law's wedding. I know it's a crowd-pleaser but I absolutely hate it. Still can't listen to anyone's version of it without cringing.

It's a gorgeous tune (and Miles' version is a top notch cover). What drives your hate? What makes you cringe?

One of the interesting things coming out of this thread is evidence, once again, that one person's trash is another's treasure.

Back in the 70's one band I was in would play a very short song segment before we went on break. "Hey everybody, we're gonna take a short 5 minute break, be back in 20 minutes". One "song" that we played, minus the vocals, was the theme song from the TV show "Green Acres", which I'm sure a lot of you young 'uns have probably never heard. Yeah, the one with the lyrics, "Green Acres is the place to be, farmin' is the life for me ...". It DOES have a catchy riff. :smug:

It would have been infinitely better with the vocals, if you ask me. Eddie and Eva really lay the boogie down.

The worst/most embarrassing was back in the 80's. I was touring with a three piece Top 40 act. Guitar/Keys. Synth Guitar (Roland) and Linn Drum and myself on Bass and keys. We played all the current crap. The worst? Phil Collins/Phil Bailey's "Easy Lover"....I sang the falsetto parts. We were on the road for weeks at a time. I'm still having nightmares. ;)

Lots of good responses, so far. Mine? "Diary" by Bread on acoustic guitar. I'll hear a piece of a song, and sometimes the only way to get it out of my head is to learn it, especially the part that ear wormed me. We were playing a gig not long after and someone said they'd give the band $100 if we could play Diary. We goofed around and killed some time a little, then I yelled, "Wait! Bring me a bar stool." I hadn't told the band I knew it, cause, well, it was kind of embarrassing. But a hundred bucks is a hundred bucks. I put down my bass and grabbed the guitarists acoustic and played and sang the song solo, front to back to dead silence until I finished. Then the crowd went nuts and the guy came up with the hundred bucks and did the whole "we're not worthy" thing in front of the stage. The best part was the band's collective jaw on the floor. I always try to keep a couple of "I can't believe you know that" songs on hand.

I suddenly want to play "just a girl" or "spiderwebs". What's going on here?
Am I okay?

I live like 13000 miles away from you :D That is Serbian Turbo Folk with... erotic lyrics. Actually I play stuff like this way more:

Serbian Turbo Folk. Wow! There IS such a thing.... I had absolutely no idea, but then, I don't get out much, LOL!

And erotic lyrics?!?! Please, can you give a site-acceptable version???

IMWTK!

The stuff you play sounds interesting in a Euro-folksy way. Nice!
