i'm a big 10 guy, and even i think that florida and arkansas have legitimate claims to #2. UM is a really good team. (as an MSU guy who thinks they're consistently overrated, it doesn't even pain me to talk about how good they are this year.) but i don't think bo dying had an effect on the game. UM is not as good as OSU. they had their shot, but they couldn't pull it off. no one thought miami was beatable in 2002, but OSU did it, anyway. maybe florida, arkansas, or USC could beat OSU in the title game. ND, on the other hand, could not. they required a miracle to beat the spartans. they failed miserably at home against the only good team they played (UM).
i think it's more important to limit the BCS championship to teams who've at least won a share of the conference title. besides, the national championship is about finding the best team. i know the BCS focuses on finding the best two teams, but that is prohibitively difficult.
