NCAA Week 14

It's finals time - some of us are known to do some extra drinking around then. :hiding:

I'm not defending his decision to drive at all, don't get me wrong. But do you think college kids don't drink during the middle of the week sometimes? :eyebrow: :D

Do you really think he is studying for finals?

This guy is far from a normal college kid. Mel K. had him in the top 5 for next year's draft. He has a few more things at stake than flunking English 101.

The last fan that can say something about off the field issues is a Bama fan. :D
The last, are you sure? You have any statistics to prove that, or should I get them for you? We're far from the last. That spot actually belongs to Florida I believe with 25 total arrests in 5 years, which is stunning, even by Miami Hurricane standards.

But I'm really not intending to bust on his school or anyone elses. Just a humurous attempt by me as comeback about him saying they need all their players for the NC game, which they won't be in anyway, so it's a moot point. :D

Of course you do. If you write a book, I'm not going to read it all. Keep it to 10 or less sentences please. :D

If not, I'll try to read it from my suite in the GeorgiaDome during halftime of the game.

It's simple. Here's the Cliff Notes:

Julio > Haden
McClain > Spikes
Arenus > James
Cody > Florida O Line
Saban > Meyer
Ingram = Healthy and fired up from Iron Bowl
Trent = Ace in the Hole
McElroy = Playing his best ball all season
Alabama = privately preparing for this game since this time last season

Sweet, thanks.

McLain and Spikes don't play each other, so that comparison is useless.

Julio is a stud, but Haden is not the only Gator who will be covering him. Even though he is more than qualified to do so alone.

The rest is debatable, but I don't have time for it right this minute. I have to head to work. :(

Okay. McClain, I have little doubt, will be Tebow's spy. Tebow is great, but he won't be able to rush if this is the case. At least not for anything more than a few yards here and there. The question will be what does this force Tebow to do with his arm, and can he do it against our pass rush? We'll see.

Haden is EXCELLENT. Don't get me wrong. Very impressive. I have a feeling that they will have to put him in man coverage on Julio to stop Bama's rushing attack. No person in college ball cover Julio in single man coverage I don't think, at least not if the QB can throw a good ball. If McElroy throws him bad passes, then that could definitely tip the advantage in Haden's favor and create a turnover.

The only thing that bothers me in this game is Hernandez. If McClain is on Tebow, someone has to pick up Hernandez. If we had Hightower still, I wouldn't be worried about this at all as Hightower > Hernandez. As it is, Cory Reamer has played well in his place all season, but he's coming off an injury himself, so I'm not sure how quick he'll be. I'm very concerned about this. Reamer does a good job tackling in space, but if he's not 100%, it could be difficult as Hernandez is great at running around tacklers.

I'm really just having fun with the smack talk. In all honesty, I'm anticipating this game with high hopes and cautious skepticism. Very mixed feelings. This could go either way quickly I think. I expect Bama to do things from the Wildcat that they haven't done all season long. I just wonder how good it'll be. I also expect to see us throw the deep ball again. Hopefully McElroy will be on it. Everything rides on him really. If he plays really well (65-70% completions) and we can rush for 150 yards total, I really don't think Florida has a chance to win it honestly. If he's closer to 50%, then it'll come down to our Defense being able to hold Florida to similar passing numbers, and we'll likely lose.

I'm trying to put aside my Bama homerism and watch this matchup as a fan of the game itself. Saban vs. Meyer, two great defenses, two capable but struggling offenses, great matchups on all sides of the ball to watch, play calling strategy, new wrinkles that haven't been seen before... It's just going to be a great game all around I think. I'll be broken if we lose, but I like our chances much better than I did last year.

I'm a SEC fan (Go Dawgs!), but I live in Oregon now, and of course all the talk around here is about the big game today between UO and OSU, with the winner going to the Rose Bowl. I guess it's never happened before where the winner of the annual Civil War game goes to the Rose.

My roommate in college now lives in Eugene (home of UO), and draws (mostly political) cartoons for the local paper. I thought y'all might appreciate this one, which could just as easily be modified for the Fla-Ala game as well:

Personally, I could care less, but it's fun watching everyone around here suddenly get interested in football. Even with the (relatively) huge stakes, it's still less intense than a typical SEC rivalry.

We had all these matchups last year, but you lost by 11.;)

Haden is improved from last year. Julio isn't, IMO (though the QB's partly to blame). As long as he gets safety help when needed, we'll be fine. And Black and Wright are excellent safeties.

McClain: Modest edge over Spikes.

Arenas is better than James, but the Gators' punter/punt coverage team combo is one of the best in the nation: 13 yards allowed all year.

Cody will be double-teamed. We'll be primarily working the edges in the running game, anyway--I hope.

Saban>Meyer? Ahahaha. The record clearly says otherwise.
Ingram = Healthy and fired up from Iron Bowl
Trent = Ace in the Hole
McElroy = Playing his best ball all season
Alabama = privately preparing for this game since this time last season
Ingram's my biggest worry, of course. We have to limit him somehow. (Although Coffee had a big game last year, and we still won.)

Richardson doesn't scare me much. His yards per carry against decent/good defenses (not the cupcakes or ARK) is very modest. I'd take Demps, Rainey or Moody (who's supposed to play this week) over him. Again, UF's running attack has been superior this season.

McElroy's doing better than he was. But <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<Tebow.:D

Preparation? I guarantee UF's been doing the same for a full year.

Cody will be double-teamed.
Well, that's kind of the point in a 3-4 defense. We want him double-teamed. Frees up an extra man to stop the run, pass rush, and keep anyone from taking the edges.

Saban>Meyer? Ahahaha. The record clearly says otherwise.
You know, I think this is VERY debatable. Saban rebuilt LSU from complete ash in short order. He's now come to Bama and had two back-to-back undefeated regular seasons in 3 years, rebuilt pretty much from ash after years of probation and poor recruiting. If all you look at is national titles, then yeah...Meyer wins. His situation is a bit different. Saban however has done incredible work with two different schools inside of a decade. If Bama win's the NC this year, then his number of titles will equal Urban's, and he will have done it at two different schools. He should definitely win Coach of the Decade if that happens.

Trent is a true freshmen, and will have superior numbers to all those names you mentioned in a couple years I think. His yards per carry is lower, but he's also had a lot of mop-up-duty carries, where he goes in and just runs it up the gut to eat the clock, so that skews his stats a bit. He's more powerful than Ingram, just not as shifty. He'll have a big game against Florida, around 75 yards I hope.

Nice! How big a screen? Get the color tweaked just right for Saturday, yeah?
Just a 37 incher for now. It's the largest TV that will fit in my living room armoire, and the wife is not willing to part with the armoire yet! The plan though is to move this TV to our bedroom in the next couple of months, and purchase a new 50+ inch TV for the living room along with some new furniture. Just didn't want to tackle that right be Christmas. Even at only 37", the detail is striking over my previous 35" CRT.

The color is perfect. There are a bunch of preset video options for sports, movies, etc. I actually sat and watched most of a 30 minute Phineas and Ferb cartoon with my 7 year old son the other day, just because it was in HD and looked amazing. I don't know why I put this off so long, except that I never watch TV outside of NCAAF.

That really was a hell of a game.

Yeah, my wife even came in and watched pretty much the whole thing. It was a pretty big deal out here. I was pulling slightly more for the Beavers, but really I just wanted to see both teams play well on national TV and have it stay interesting until the end, which it did. When I moved to the PNW in the mid 80s both those teams were beyond hopeless...and now neither one is a gimme on anyone's schedule.
