NPD: SA Aftershock

Ok, for what's it's worth, here's a few settings to get some of what I've listed as functions. (The pedal is not actually with me, so I am going off just looking at the app on my phone - I'll edit if I goof it up) I'm sure the support guys can hook you up, but for the sake of the forum... why not.

A/B Channel Switching:
- I/O routing > Mono In, Stereo Process, Mono Out
- External Switch Mode > Latching (Toggle)
- External Switch Control Option > Channel Switch Left/Right

Channel Stacking:
- I/O routing > Mono In/Out with Cascaded Channels
- External Switch Mode > Latching (Toggle)
- External Switch Control Option > Left (Ch. 1) Bypass

Extreme Setting Changes (Same Engine)
same as first one, just use the same engines with different settings.

Parallel Effects (Channel 1 in and out)
- I/O routing > Mono In, Stereo Process, Mono Out
- External Switch Mode > Latching (Toggle)
- External Switch Control Option > Left Ch. 1 Off/On *
* note: don't bypass or you'll get a clean blend effect, you want your engine to turn off

You can also do these all with momentary, but I like it to be more traditional to how a stompbox switch works and not have to hold it.

Hopefully that helps. Let me know if you have other things to figure out, I'm happy to write them out.
Let me know if I messed any up (It's possible)

Greetings. I did a search but may not be using the right terms. Is there a way to try out other SA One pedals in my Aftershock? In other words, can I load up the defaults for the Lunar or Kingmaker? Or is that not possible? I didn't see any instruction on the SA website but I have a dim recollection of reading about someone doing that.

The Aftershock already has everything you can get out of the dirt pedals (Kingmaker and LA Lady). You can't turn it into one of the modulation pedals like the Lunar...at least not in any official capacity...

Thanks Adam. So I could conceivably load up the factory Kingmaker presets? Or the LA Lady ones?

I think so, though I've never done it. The deep editing controls (engines, etc.) are all the same. I don't know if there is anything about the way presets work that would make preset sharing difficult.

i have LA Lady and i have had borrowed an Aftershock from a friend of mine. They are the same except the cover paint and names on their knobs...
The Aftershock has a dedicated mix control knob, which is necessary for Bass. All sounds and parameters are there for all 3 of them. Same is true is you buy one of the 3 modulators.

Hey guys one question, how do you do that thing on aftershock, like a slicer/tremolo thing?

check this clip on 2:30

Sure you mean 2:30 ? that's the end of the video where the pedal is clicking on and off with no sound passing through. I think the same thing is happening at 0:23 where, without nathan touching any pedals, suddenly the sound is chopping in synch with drum track. My guess is there's a midi track being played which is directly or indirectly switching the aftershock on and off in synch. I think the maker of the video hinted at the on/off with the pedal colouring. At the same time the chopping magically starts happening the display on the soleman starts to change, first a flashing in the bottom right, then the text at the top changes. I feel sure there's some midi activity going on.

can you do tap tempo on it? thanks in advance..

@nathannavarro know's more, but I think he discovered that you can rapidly toggle the pedal on and off with midi. That is a cool bonus of relay based true bypass. Try that with your foot and a switch!

Okay, I successfully loaded a Kingmaker and a LA Lady preset onto the pedal, and changed the knob functions with the MacOS desktop editor. Good for me.

Now: have any of you experimented with settings for the high pass and low pass filters on the parametric EQ? I'm basically wanting to use those as HPF and LPF for the wet output of a EHX Micro Pog, Royal Blood style (though the music will sound totally different). It looks like there is no way to assign those to knobs so you can't just twiddle by ear, which would be way faster than making a change in the editor and then burning it to the pedal. Or can you?

ALSO: is there a way to make the external foot switch move through presets, or can it only toggle between two settings within a preset? It would be great if I could make it work to move through clean/EQ; drive and fuzz settings.

Thanks.

I was sending MIDI to the AfterShock over USB from Logic Pro X for the quick switching. Here's a blog I wrote, giving an in-depth rundown of each section in that demo.

The Vertigo Tremolo, Lunar Phaser, Gemini Chorus, and Mercury Flager have tap tempo available via Source Audio External Footswitch, or MIDI clock via the Neuro Hub or over USB.

Nice! If you're not using it already, check out the AfterShock's "Stereo In, Stereo Out" I/O Routing Option. This will allow you to keep both audio signal separate, and you'll be able to make EQ tweaks to both signals individually, using the Channel 1 and Channel 2 controls within the Neuro Desktop or Mobile App. HPF and LPF are not covered as a reassignable knob option. The current options available are Bass Level, Treble Level, Bass Frequency, Treble Frequency, Mid A Level, Mid A Frequency, Mid A Q, Mid B Level, Mid B Frequency, Mid B Q, Clean Mix, Distortion Mix, Voice, and Voice Frequency. The knob control parameters are applied to both channels.

An external foot switch can only be used for toggling. The Neuro Hub can expand the AfterShock's number of presets from six to 128 when used with a MIDI controller, and the Soleman has multiple modes for stepping through presets while having additional parameter controls open.

Speaking of MIDI, what is the current state of MIDI mapping for the Aftershock? I know you can assign a certain limited number of things via MIDI learn.

The Neuro Desktop App now allows complete CC mapping for the AfterShock. From the top menu, select Device // Edit Device MIDI Map. The following window lists CCs 0-127, and a dropdown menu of all available parameters next to each CC number, for custom mapping. The parameters include: Left Voice, Left Voice Frequency, Left Drive, Left Output, Left Distortion Engine, Left Clean Mix, Left Drive Balance, Left Drive Maximum, Left Treble Level, Left Bass Level, Left Mid A Level, Left Mid B Level, (All of the previously listed parameters, but for the right side), Gate Threshold, Clean High Cut, Treble Frequency, Bass Frequency, Mid A Frequency, Mid A Q, Mid B Frequency, Mid B Q, Low Cut Filter, I/O Routing Option, Filter Gate Option, Noise Gate Enable, Channel Switch Control, Bypass/Engage.

Ok, cool This is on 1.05, I think?

Two small questions/feature requests...

(1) Do any of these function as a "state independent" footswitch, like the newly added functionality for the Nemesis and Ventris? That would be cool. (And I did have a workaround for issue I talked to you about over e-mail; the way the Nemesis is currently implemented works great for me.)

(2) Any chance of a MIDI control to directly access the 6 on-pedal presets without involving Hub scenes? (I think that's been discussed in this thread before...)
