"Wow...that sounds good!"
I took the F1, my LDS 2x8+5" mid driver, and G&L SB2JJ fretless to work last night. Been a while since I played a fretless that wasn't my upright. The rig sounded great, and was really fun to play. A good fretless, on the bridge pickup, layed into like you mean it is very cool.
"Hey, get off that; or, They're built tough too"
It was just piano, sax and bass; but, we did have a girl singer come in and do Summertime and a couple other jazz covers. It's very seldom that the singer is behind me on stage, but that's how it worked out last night. Weird little stage. At any rate, I turn around to get the eyeball cue for the impending ending of the song we're playing, and....she's sitting on the F1/2x8. Not a big girl, but, not petite either.
"Hey, uhhhh, get off my amp, please?'' I ask.
"Oh jeez, I didn't even see that thing on top of your speaker.''
Yessir. Takes a licking, and keeps on ticking.
(go ahead, it's a lob, swing at it)

Can I join??? Just got a LMII two days ago! Played my first gig with it last night....and it absolutely KILLED!! Here's a photo of it with the Fender 210 and 115 pro cabs.
I really liked the sound of the LMII, and with the eq set flat, I had a really great slap tone with the Ibanez BTB, however, the upper register of the bass didn't come through as well. But I think adding a compressor would help with this a lot. The Bassman 1200 that I traded in for this had a built in compressor, so I never really needed to worry about getting one, but now that it's gone, I'm in the market.
Do any of you have a recommendation for a good rack-mount compressor? I've done some searches, and the dbx line seems pretty popular, but I really want to find one that will work well with the LMII.
Depending on how the compressor sounds, I also thought about adding a Nady PEQ-5B to help with some mid-range control. I like how the each band of the Nady can be tweaked so well, plus each can be bypassed, so I can flip it on and off when I need it. But I'll hold off on the EQ for awhile and mess around with the amp some more....I have a feeling I just haven't found the sweet spot with the VLE and VPF filters yet.

Just me, but if I had to add that much stuff to get a head to sound good to me, I'd pick another head.

I just got an SD800. Went from an all tube SVT2 Pro since I have a herniated disc I could not lug that monster around anymore. I thought I would be upset going from an all tube to digital but wow. This is a great amp and freaking loud. Has a nice warm sound to it I can get the same kind of sounds I used to get with my ampeg and more. Along with an avatar 2x10 I acquired here this will be my new portable rig and it has not let me down. Just wish I had switched sooner all that tone and being lightweight! The VLF knob rocks! It helps that I got a real good deal on it too (630 shipped). I would love to get one of their cabs to match but they are pretty pricey.

Nah, I totally understand back problems not mixing well with SVT's. And at least he did it with a Markbass. I don't use mine much anymore but its Ampeg-like qualities can't be denied. Looks like crap on top of a blue check B-15 cab, though
You're right, I got to mess around with the setting on the LMII this morning while getting ready to play at church, I got every tone I was looking for. I don't know what I was thinking when looking at the Nady, one of the attractive features about the LMII is that I don't need to use a lot of EQ!!
I would still like to try some compression though, I just got an Alesis Micro Limiter for cheap off ebay, so hopefully that will work.

Funny little side note is they are only 2 serial numbers away from each other. Same month and year. Bought the second one recently from the East Coast and have had my original one for almost a year that I bought locally.

If I needed that much power I might try the same. However, I've never had my LMII past noon on the master in over 50 gigs so it would just be overkill for me. Sure looks nice though.

I'm planning on A/B'ing these two at my gig tomorrow night and only one will make the cut!

Well, the LM II is a closer cosmetic match to your cabs so it has to sound better, right?
