Official Zon Club Part 4

Hey guys! I seem to have lost the adjustment screw from the saddle of my Sonus Custom 5 somewhere and have just noticed it. The funny thing is that the spring stayed intact, so I didn’t notice right away even though I *did* notice that the saddle was buzzing a little bit.

Anybody know where I can get a replacement screw thing?

Mcmaster-Carr (mcmaster.com). Just measure the diameter, thread pitch and length of one of the remaining screws (listed as set screws in Mcmaster) order, and wait. Shouldn't cost you more than $0.50 for the part (plus a few extra for backup).

Hey Zon folks! New convert here... Couldn't afford a USA Zon, so I did alot of research and went for a Sonus Standard 5, originally purchased from Bass San Diego. Here on TB FS for the short time it was in the classifieds.

It has had a pro-setup and I'm quite happy with it. Neck is thin, similar to my Ibanez 905. I like the bridge spacing. Basslines are a nice change from Barts. This bass is nice and punchy, not dark, and can hold a fine set-up better than most I've played.
I just got a set of Hipshot Ultralites to match the bridge. Probably don't need them, but they should have been on the bass to begin with.
The no-name preamp, to my surprise, is really nice. But am thinking on a matching Duncan STC-3 pre. I dunno right now. Kinda tapped for cash. Plays and sounds better than I had hoped for. :)
I liked the Bass Gear review Link Removed and MC4S' take on Zon vs Spector and the way bass sounds mixed with metal music. HERE. Great take on that MC4S!
I picked the MIK Zon over some other builders that went to Korea/Czech for a line of basses. Including Spector, Lakland, MTD ect...
So I'll subscribe to this thread, get a number and read on...

Glad to be of service! Nice bass score. I'm patiently awaiting a custom lefty Zon VB-4 build myself.

Xhawk- nice score on your Zon. I bet it sounds great.

Tsar- digging the clips you've been posting and it looks like your basses are seeing some nice stage time. Congrats. I am thinking about borrowing one of my guitar player's amps for some distortion solos, but I've used a guitar pedal with some success for what I'm trying to achieve.

I've been crazy busy this summer with non music related stuff but now I'm getting some time to woodshed before I record later this summer. I was practicing for a bit today and turned on the video recorder to catch some stuff. I'm pushing the phrasing ahead of the loop to see where it works musically in spots. So basically just messing around with an idea.
Signal chain is: TJ6-Zoom G2.1U- TC Electronics Ditto- ZoomHD- out to a Mackie monitor (which makes it tough to get the distortion and turn over points that I'll end up getting later with an amp)

Awesome action shots Addison! Great looking Zon too!

Looks like I'm headed back into the Zon club. I've got a 2012 Zon Sonus 519 headed my way as I type!:)

If it's anywhere as nice as the blackend redwood Sonus that I let get away I'll be a happy guy!

@Mulebagger : Thanks for the kind words, amigo! The Zons are the best stage basses imaginable, for me anyway -- rock solid and dependable with perfect playability! I *love* your new clip! Amazing touch on the distorted guitar lines, totally fluid and rocking. Reminds me of some of the distorto stuff on Manring's "Thonk" LP. Can't wait to hear your finished record!

@xhawk : Congrats on the new bass! Bienvenidos!

@Addison : Fresh! Sanders' bass looks neato. Love the sound of a Zon in heavier tunes.
