Peavey Amps Club

I just picked this baby up along with a Peavey Fury bass. Previous owner said it was probably about 20 years old. But it is in great shape and sounded great.

Could I please get a number for this club? I just picked up a Peavey T-Max 2x10 with a Peavey 410 cabinet today... love the sound that comes out of this thing... great match for my Cirrus :)

Here goes my first question about the T-Max 210 with 410tx cabinet... The 210 is rated at 4ohms and the 410 is rated at 8ohms. Everything that I have read indicates that the two should be rated the same...
Am I to continue on as is? Would this cause damage to the head? Should I be looking to trade the 8ohm 410 for a 4ohm version?

Xandros, you won't damage the head as your total load is 2.67 ohms which is higher than the T-Max's minimum load of 2 ohms. The issue here is uneven power dissipation. Simply put, the 410TX is going to dissipate less power and therefore be a bit quieter than the 210. In a perfect world you would want the 210 to be 8 ohms and the 410 4 ohms, but that's not going to happen here as Peaveys weren't offered that way. If it sounds good, play it and enjoy it. If it poses a real problem, you might want to consider trading the 410TX for a 210TX, TXF or TVX extension cab which are 4 ohm and will balance the load perfectly. Or possibly a 1x15 cab which are also 4 ohm, but mixing driver sizes can be a crap-shoot. I wouldn't lose sleep over it though, you got yourself a cool rig.
 
Simple solution and what I would do. Re-wire the drivers in the 210 from parallel to series. That will make the 210 16 ohms. Combined with the 410TX, you'll have perfect distribution of power dissipation with a load impedance of 5.33 ohms. Technically you'll be putting out a bit less total power but because all six 10" drivers will now each be dissipating the same amount of power it will probably sound louder than the way it is now.
 
Thanks LowEZ! I have noticed that the 410 doesn't put out as much as the 210, but for my purposes right now, I think it will be fine. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't damaging anything.
I'm going to have to take a crash course on electronics though before I even consider re-wiring anything, but it is good to know that it can be done. I'm very interested in learning more, especially now that there is a need to do so... thanks for getting me started!
 
Series wiring is pretty simple;

right now your cab is wired so that + and - from your cab's input go to + and - on one speaker, then + and - on the second speaker.

The change recommended here, is to rewire your 210 as follows:
oThe input wire + goes to one speaker's +
oThe - goes to - on the other speaker's -
oThe series connection goes from the - terminal on the first speaker to the + terminal on the second speaker
