Pork Loin mod

Well, the WH Pork Loin I just received from MF has F83, 102J in C34. Guess it surprised me the original model was still being shipped. Now I have to decide if I should send it back or do the mod. Any benefit to having an original and doing the mod as opposed to the updated version?

I think that there is only one version. I have seen many newer ones and all have the same cap value.

Hi guys. I’m getting my PL tomorrow, and although ill use it stock to start with ill be doing the cap mod sooner rather than later.
My soldering skills arent great, but I’m sure I can manage this. I normally do my own PUP and pot changes, although never done anything that involves a circuit board.
Can i just clip the old one either side of the cap itself and solder the new one to whatever is left? If i can that would mean i wont risk damaging the board as much as i might. If not ill take my time and I’m sure it will be fine. Will a 25wat iron be ok or should I go lower?
Cheers. Cant wait until the PL arrive and i plug it in. As soon as I get it ill be off to rehearsals so that wil be the first play with it.

I’ve been hearing that the new PLs are shipping with the mod already done... you may not have to do any soldering. Maybe someone else can confirm.

If you do have to solder, just clipping won’t work, cuz the wires on the cap actually go into little holes on the board, so you have to clear out the old before you can put in the new.

Low heat so you don’t damage the board.

My thinking was to solder the new cap on to the surface of the board, so effectively soldered to the old stems.

Good thought, but I'd be afraid the old metal lead would transfer the heat down itself to the through-hole part and melt the existing solder in the hole. I can understand the concern about damaging the board, but if you're quick on and off it won't be a problem.
