Yep, I can get that effect, but I usually use the CEB as a high pass filter to get a guitar sound from my bass. I origanally got it to use on regular guitar, but it works out the way I want on bass. I really suck on guitar (not kidding at all!) so getting the guitar tone I want on bass is really great! Now I can do some solo recordingsmikkejohansson said:

It's ok, There's really only one setting that I like and that is with the knob turned to about 10:00 and the switch set to output. Soon as I found that setting I nailed the bass intro to that Nirvana song.(can't remember the name of it).
i think thats the one, but i thought that was a guitar intro, then the bass comes in after the drums
I have a slightly different view. I did like the Moogerfooger but I didn't think it was the 'best'.
I've owned Mooger Lowpass, Lovetone Meatball, Ebs BassIQ, Pigtronix EP-1, emma disCUMbobulator, Musitronics Mutron III, Haz Labs Mutron III+, Tonefactor Analogue Fiter and many others that I can't just bring to mind (its 4am).
The best of these filters was definitely the Mutron III and the second best IMO was the Meatball.

I've owned Mooger Lowpass, Lovetone Meatball, Ebs BassIQ, Pigtronix EP-1, emma disCUMbobulator, Musitronics Mutron III, Haz Labs Mutron III+, Tonefactor Analogue Fiter and many others that I can't just bring to mind (its 4am).
The best of these filters was definitely the Mutron III and the second best IMO was the Meatball.

Both of which are out of production, its obviously a matter of taste but as far as readily available in production units I pick the Moogerfooger. I have tried a few myself and this was the only one that kept a solid low end with tweaked resonance and filter. I can't imagine the pigtronix EP-1 working too well on bass, how was your experience?
What are the dimensions on those boxes that you bought from Home Depot, and was there anything inside that you had to gut out before putting your pedals in?

Just to add to it, the pigtronix is a great bass filter, but again if you don't use the phaser side it's a very very big filter to have on the board and has a stupid power supply.
I also agree the original Mutron III is the best filter I've heard and I've tried everything Toasted's tried and then some.

I use those same boxes for video cameras. They're empty and you can get them in the hardware (nuts and bolts) section. I think the spec is 16" (w) x 10-12" (l) x 6" (h) - but I don't have one in front of me to check.

I'm looking for something with etheral and flangy modulation with maybe a bit of space sounds tossed in as more a background sound than actual "voice". I definately don't want the standard "synth" sound. Suggestions? I'm a filter virgin.
