Couldn't you have lied, and said the W. Grande was just a waste of money and effort? Why... Why.... did you have to go and make me start to dream? This ultimate quest for "Gear"..... does it ever end?????

I think Mark should just let me borrow one for an indefinite period of time. !!!!! (well, it sounded good to me.!)

Here's my idea, which has worked very well for me in the past.

My Ampeg V4B-H powers and Ampeg PR1532 cab.
But I take the balanced pre-amp out and go to
my QSC, which then powers a pair of Ampeg cabs: an 4x10 and a 1x15.
The all tube preamp of the V4b gives me a nice classic sound.

Yea, that rig did work, but it was cumbersome to transport and set up,
So I finally got the Ampeg B5R, which I love.
It powers, at its' 500 watt maximum @ 2-ohms,
and Avatar 212 and the PR1532.....or it'll make
the 4x10 and 115 come alive.
I'm really thrilled with the B5R for its' simplicity and power output.
I find the octave divider and fuzztone channel worthless.

i dont think you can go wrong with a stewart 1.6 or 2.1 or any of the QSC PLX series of power amps (cause they're powerful and light) and then add the preamp that you like
my only other preference is small speakers so you can go modular and bring as many as you need for a given gig

You have the cool option of taking two cabs to a smaller gig and have 900W/chnl.

I'd buy the beer. Too bad that we're not geographically closer lo-freq, so that you could give the rig a thorough workout!

This is the first time I've really heard the Acmes at their absolute best. With less power they sounded warm and even right down to low B, but as Vanselus suggested perhaps just a bit too sweet. The added power really resolves this issue and they become incredibly transparent. This combination sounds incredible; a perfect match and an extremely pleasant and unexpected surprise.

In my main rack I use a Glockenklang BassArt pre-amp into (2) Glockenklang Bugatti power amps. I bridge each amp so they are 800 watts mono into 8 ohms.Each amp powers an 8 ohm Glockenklang Quattro 4x10 cabinet.

You were nice enough to allow me to play part of your rig before & it's flat out killer. You do nothing half way my friend, right down to the amazing custom power cords. This is one of the most extreme rigs I’ve seen & the Glock amps kills.

I would like to hear your rig.

I've been especially wanting to hear a Glock pre for a while.
I have this preconception that a really well designed solid state preamp should sound at least as good, if not better than a really well designed tube preamp.

Hopefully one of these days I'll get to find out.

Well hello Mr.Whappo Grande,thanks for the kind words!!! You know I love your gear!! It was great seeing you at The Bass Quake.Funny you mention the power cables,there are alot of people on Talkbass that have never heard them,but are convinced that they can't possibly work!! Check-out the thread on the amp forum about power cables,it is good for a laugh! These guys really dogged me hard.I did (6)different blind test with guys yesterday,and they were all blown away!!! To Lo-Freq,I think that you would love the Glockenklang BassArt pre-amp,It sounds great! I know Tripp is on Talkbass alot,you should ask him what he thinks of it.He used mine at the Bass Quake and will be using it at NAMM!

I forgot to mention that John is also a monster player & not just a gear hound. (I bought a killer fretless F Bass from him as well!)

Of all the good gear on the market, I must say the Glock amps & preamps are at the top of the list. They are a wonderful match for any of our AccuGroove cabinets. Plus, Uwe Salwender, the distributor, is a great guy. Now, how many times can you say that about your competition?
