I'm hoping to get a used Gen 1 iPad and the Garageband app for recording purposes as well. Gotta start saving though,...and I can't really justify buying the Gen2. I could potentially just use my iPod touch,...but it's only an 8gig however.

I actually use a gen1 iPad, got it from my dad when he got a kindle. Garageband doesn't work with the iPod touch! very disappointing. And on top of that I think you can only record like 30s of audio at one go. So while it's fun the app does have it's limitations too.

Like Behndy said, a PC might be cheaper than an iPad, and you could always get an interface to replace the soundcard- Focusrite makes pretty good interfaces for the money.

Yep, it's really sweet. It makes simple recording very enjoyable...even compared to the laptop version.

If each pedal adds a tiny bit of noise, which they have to, don't all of them added up equal a lot of noise? If you plug your bass direct into the amp then listen, then plug through the board and listen again. You're telling me there is no difference?

I use a pedal that puts all my effects into a separate loop, so when I am running clean they do not interfere- they aren't in my signal path. I use a Barge Concepts pedal that has a buffered input. Radial also makes pedals to do this, and one of them is unbuffered/unpowered, if you're worried about loading up the input of your amp. Lots of solutions, dive in, the water is fine.

I personally think *awesome* without understanding your routing/loops at all. I am using a SP Mk II for some louder projects, but was really torn about going w/ the Red Ripper instead.

Any insight or comparison/contrast on those two pedals?

For "normal" dirt I'm liking the Fulltone Bass Driver and a Bad Monkey, so I'm looking to the SP and perhaps the Red Ripper for more extreme tones.

Sorry I'm so late to the party. The FX threads are always b!tch!n, I should have joined earlier. Photos of my board coming soon, but here's the latest "main config" I use for my busiest, plays the biggest shows modern rock gig:

Barge Concepts FX loop pedal -> MXR BOD (probably drop for my Boss OC2) -> Bad Monkey -> Fulltone BD -> Mutron III+ -> Boss BF-3 flanger -> MXR Carbon Copy. Sometimes I run my little Xotic EP "clean boost" after the output of the Barge, outside of the FX loop.

I will swap the following, but also change the order: SP Mk II for the Bad Monkey, place it after the Fulltone; the Boss OC2 for the Carbon Copy, but put it at the front of the chain. For the freakiest of my gigs- a four-piece where we only jam, no tunes allowed, I'll add the SP and a QTron+ along with the clean boost after the Barge Concepts. Of course those external pedals just roll around on the floor- so I really need a bigger board to properly pull them permanently in, and I am feeling like I want some more sophisticated switching, like maybe a Carl Martin Octa-Switch.

Yeah my bad, went back to check my settings, I had the recording thing set to manual so it only records 8 bars!

MAN. been a hinute since i had everything setup. and the Exar Super Fuzz? rarrrrrrrrrrr. sexy BEAST. i got a Octavium offa Erukusu and it was..... a'ight. i thought the octave up was busted, Bongomaniacal said send it to him (best rep EVAH), he contacted Exar and it turns out it wasn't broken. just kinda horrible sounding. so what'd he do? offered to send me something else Exar'ian that he had in stock. i said "surprise me Big Daddy" and WHOO DIDDLY. he sure did.

lulz. actually just putting in some time with the EMX and the MachineDrum before i list them. i have them, 3 basses, a micro head, maybe some pedz...... stuff that's just hanging out here and i've got some computer gear i'd rather drop the monies into. FUN tabletop synths though.

The Red Ripper is an excellent pedal for the extreme! It's a synthy fuzzbox that depending on where it's set can sound like it's ripping your signal (in a good way at least for me!) If you want give me a few days (still moving to our home) and I can post some clips (PM to remind me if you want)

same board, added a memory boy and changed the order abit, now I'm running the bass compressor before the preamp (didn't do that the last time because of the lack of cables). Green Rhino in the effects loop of the memory boy, and the expression pedal now works with the Xerograph! Thanks to Taylor for the quick replies and help.

Bought Nose expression pedals for the Memory Boy and Frantabit- learnt my lesson and got the TRS one this time round.

That, my friend, is a thing of beauty! I'm not even that jealous about the pedals or anything, just the overall impression and functionality. Very cool!

That pedal board is *exactly* what I'd like, two distinct levels! (Or am I just seeing things incorrectly?) Of course the pedals are primo, I'm a ways off of all the boutique greatness, but that board is something I need. What kind is it? (I also must say the M9 for modulation/delay/reverb seems like a great call.)

Oh I know it's well thought out - I was just saying my brain hasn't figured it out yet! But there was a good post around pg 8 or 9 that explained the Boss looper pedal, I will re-read that then re-read your original and see if I can figure the routing out. I've learned more in the FX forum than the rest of TB put together.

So the Ripper is for extreme ripping sounds, almost gated fuzz-like maybe? And where does the SP MK II fit in? I love mine, but I am finding that I haven't figured out how to make it play nice with my octavers or envelope filters. It seems to just crank the filter all the way open, and result in a very mid-nasally type sound. It is too quiet after the octaver - both the Fulltone or Bad Monkey, set in more OD mode, make the octavers pop so much better. I probably need to mess around with order some more.

I am finding the SP sounds epic with some flanger and/or delay after it, or just on it's own, turned way up loud, it's very much "Excuse me while I crush this musical moment with a concrete-filled lead pipe..." I do wish that the left internal knob was mounted on the exterior though. Still lots of fun, but I am also missing the OCD I passed by for the SP. The OCD was almost as radical, almost, but it seemed to play better with filters and octavers. Just my limited one-gig experience with the OCD.
