R.I.P. Scott Weiland

Well, Scott Weiland finally met an overdose he couldn't beat. :rollno: Not a "huge" fan by any means, but the first STP & Velvet Revolver albums were just great hard/heavy rock albums. But when you OD/Sober Up/Rinse & Repeat for almost 25 years, the odds are going to catch up to you.

...Even if clean, they are still really jonesing for just another taste.

I'd disagree with this to a degree - it sounds like a description of the Old-School AA/sobriety term "White-Knuckling", which basically meant to be sober through sheer force of will, and not "internalizing" the method/state of mind & being. As someone who has addiction running rampant through both sides of my family and has seen both "white-knuckle" and the more thoughtful and natural "internalization" methods of sobriety as well as a member of my "Nuclear Family" who has 6 years sober (and not simply "still really jonesing for just another taste"), it's pretty devastating to everyone the slightest bit involved.

Two different bands I was in 15 years ago, we opened every show with Sex Type Thing.

For three straight years doing a set of covers at my Vocalist Friend's University's "Mayfest's Battle of the Bands", we did the same. By Year Three we all knew the song so very well that we swapped Instruments to put some variety & humor into the beginning of our Set.

I hear what you're saying, but what I am saying is, it is ALWAYS gonna be there. No matter how much "internalizing" an addict does, the addict is always gonna be an addict. Some will "white-knuckle" it for the rest of their lives, which I imagine would be torture for the person. And some people can switch it off another way, which will make it easier for them. But it will still always be there. And one slight slip could bring it all crashing back in the blink of an eye.

Not sure if this is an official source or not. Scott Weiland died after cardiac arrest, coke found in room

Seems he must have OD'd. :( Very sad. I knew Scott wouldn't stay clean because he never did. He was ALWAYS relapsing. Very, very sad. Reminds me of Travis Meeks, who is doomed to the same fate if he doesn't clean up. Super talented dude too. Such a tragedy on both fronts.

Also reminds me of Peter Steele. He cleaned up, started living again and bam aneurysm.

So sad man.

Oh, I fully agree with you on that. For the vast X1,000,000s of Addicts, Abstinence is the only way to lead a healthy, sane life. There's the rare Odball of genetics/brain chemistry that can "switch" to social/recreational usage, but for just about all there's no cure... "Promises" 'I was an Addict for 10 Years...and now I'm not' "Not-A-Rehab" be damned.

Drugs once again f-up everything. STP was a great band. Same thing happened with Layne from Alice In Chains. When will people learn to leave the drugs alone?? It's common knowledge what happens when addiction gets its claws into a person. Let music be the high!!

Well, one could argue that the difference between "Heroin/Opium-type Drugs" and "Marihuana-type Drugs" is as large as... well, Jaco on Fretless and myself (as well as the largely untapped Medicinal possibilities that someone with multiple disabilities such as myself would vastly welcome, if not for the politics of my particular State). However, I think we can agree this is neither the time nor the place for such a discussion.

A buddy of mine used to party with them when they used to play at The Casbah, in downtown San Diego, back in the 90s. He said they were super cool to hang out with.
Several years ago, I was hanging out at Moonlight Music in Encinitas Ca., (North of downtown S.D.) one Saturday afternoon, when Robert Deleo came in with his wife. (They had come down from L.A to meet some friends for dinner.) We chatted and talked shop for about for about 10 or 15 minutes, before Mrs. Deleo gave him the 'Time to go', signal.
As much as I wanted to ask him about Scott, I didn't, as I knew this was a sore topic for him, Dean and Eric.
He was every bit as gracious and congenial as my friend had told me. I've heard similar stories, from others who have encountered them. Really nice guys.

R.I.P. Scott.

weirdest thing happened today, i was cleaning my garage and decided to put the STP on shuffle... got a text half an hour later about Scott... He and his band were a big part of the soundtrack of my teenage years... sad day indeed... Rest In Music Scott

Me too! I had an urge to listen to Core today for the first time in like three years. When I got home, my wife told me the news... Weird.
