Some bikes can drop a lot of speed by just closing the throttle. Typically cars do not produce a lot of engine-braking without downshifting. Just because he didn't appear to downshift, doesn't mean he couldn't have suddenly decelerated.

that, and the fact that from the biker's bike helmet we can clearly see that the guy stops and the guy who is recording keeps going when the "brake checker" guy suddenly drops out of camera range

I was expecting the numbers next to the names in the news reports to begin with a "1" or "2". I have a hard time believing that people can be this stupid into their fouth decade as human beings. They should all be hanged from roadside lightposts. Every one. That's how civil societies remain civil.

Ed Mieses is clearly more use to his family dead than alive (even without a life insurance policy). His children's presence didn't stop him from dealing coke and weed, but I'm sure he won't have any problem using them to try and garner sympathy for the results of his actions. Pathetic! Maybe we'll all get lucky and he'll commit suicide when it sinks in. More likely the taxpayer will pay for him to be on the dole for the next forty years. What a macho guy!

Yep, any excuse to accuse someone of racism will do for the average Brooklynite. Godwin's Law in full effect, yo. I guess the actions of the motorcycle morons can all be forgiven by their bad home lives or centuries of repression. Or maybe since there might be law enforcement and veterans among their ranks, we can blame PTSD. Nice try, but they're just irresponsible scum. There are places in the tri-state they could've raced or done tricks and not bothered anyone. The West Side Highway isn't one of them. The die was cast, and it came up snake eyes for a dude who had no place gambling. A humane society makes that an object lesson for other would-be gamblers. People educated under the aegis of political correctness will never understand this. Say hello to Ed and Gloria for us, sweetie.

No doubt - after reading his posts on this thread, I've come to the conclusion that he's somehow involved, or is just trolling...Either way, trying to reason with him on this is a wasted effort....

But then someone would have argued that using "crotch rocket" as an adjective helped give the bikes personhood and took away from the fact that it was actually the idiots who terrorized the family and not the crotch rockets. :ninja:

As far as a Prius, my dad's ex-girlfriend had one. I always thought it was dumb that she worked a second job on top of her normal 40/hr a week job just for the car payment, since they cost (at least did cost at the time she bought it) over twice as much as any other average sedan. I can see working a second job to put equity into a house, but I've always seen cars as ephemeral commodities that you get rid of in a couple of years. I'm all for being green and saving on the price at the pump, but I would have personally bought a vehicle that didn't cost as much as a small island and worked one job instead...but that's jus' me.

Well..... let me just say that I disagree with Phil's stance, however if he had intended to point out some irony, I think he may have hit a home run.
No disrespect meant to anyone, but this thread has been a little enlightening to me personally.

The biker who shot the helmet-cam video said he started taping after seeing a water bottle fly out of the sunroof of the SUV.

Obviously, he cant show that on the video since the cam was turned on after the bottle was thrown from the SUV. But if thats true, that might explain the agressive demeanor of the bikers. Certainly, it doesnt excuse it, but might provide a clue as to [DEL]how[/DEL] why the whole confrontation began.

Its a little bit suspect that the "battery cut out" on the helmet-cam just prior to the SUV driver's beating.

I just read that yesterday as well
