REDDI Tube DI Mega Thread . Potential megathread that is.

I'm still using my REDDI just about every day in our studio here at Rocket Music. Here's the latest "Bass Orchestra" piece that I finished earlier today. I still need to add the bridge and the modulated outro, but that's for another day...

"Soul Man" (Sam & Dave, The Blues Brothers)

All of the bass tracks were recorded direct through my REDDI using this Roscoe Century Standard 6-string, and the drums were programmed using Session Drummer 3 in Sonar X1. The only other instruments used were my hands (for the handclaps in verses 2 & 3).

So i bought a REDDI, it has become a desert island item for me. Never leave home without it when tracking. I had a rehearsal at my home studio and here is the setup. Allen Heath ZED Mixer into a simple MP3 recorder. So there is no processing other than the touch of reverb added to each instrument from the ZED. The Roland TD20 Drums and Nord Stage EX are running stereo to the board. Vocal Mic is running to a Joe Meek Mic Pre and into the Mixer. The guitar is running to a POD XLT and into mixer in stereo. The p bass is running into the REDDI and into the Mixer. I used a Boss Compressor Pedal before the reddi to tame things a tad. Here are the results. Once again these are live recordings no dubs or punches.

There are three tracks of bass (the palm-muted bass line, the chords & the melody/lead) plus some drums I programmed using Session Drummer 3 within Sonar X1.

The REDDI is really my go-to DI now for recording all sorts of basses for my store's website. I've yet to run across a bass where the REDDI didn't help make it sound beautiful.

I love my REDDI and just ordered a Pelican case that fits it perfectly. Just like te one I saw on this thread.

Can't wait to get it.

That ATA case is awesome.

UPS just delivered the pelican case today. It is perfect. Ill get my Reddi into its new home very soon.

Speaking of cases, I picked up the Tuki case for mine. It's just a soft case, but it's very well padded and pretty light. I'm not doing any serious travel with it, so it's perfect for me right now.

It's certainly better than just tossing the REDDI into a duffel bag :)

Just discovered this cool thread. I love my REDDI - it's got like a whole extra octave on the bottom compared to my J48. Such a joy to play through!

Has anyone experimented w/ subbing different tubes for the stock tube? Thoughts?

So of course my luck... On the last tour of 2011... I open up my skb case and all seems well. I take out my REDDI to hear an internal rattle.. As i look at the front panel, there are two MAJOR dents on the front lips. I opened up REDDI to find the tube completely OFF and broken. This definately did not happen IN the case.. There is simply no way thats possible.

I am writing the airlines but im sure ill just get the run around. Thankfully its just the tube but this is definately the crappy part of traveling. So my trusty JDI is getting the work done. AIRLINES SUCK!

Man that sucks! Not to knock this thread off topic, but I had a friend that had his pedalboard "tampered with" by airport security, to put it lightly... They broke the hinges on his hardcase, broke one of his pedals' input/output jacks and a couple knobs, and ruined two of his pedals completely by attempting to pry the backs off, WITHOUT unscrewing the screws.

Airlines definitely can suck! Hope your REDDI makes a full recovery.

The Summit is cleaner, and flatter; it is not as "big sounding" in the low end. Also it is rarely described as having an "amp-like" response, the way the REDDI often is. The Summit is great if you want a pristine tone, with the ability to dial in a bit of tubey warmth. The REDDI is for when you want more of a miked-amp sound (though it is not an extreme coloring effect like a Sansamp). The Summit can drive a power amp by itself, the REDDI cannot.
