Ive noticed it on every photo posted of the back of one of these

B string ferrule slightly shifted towards neck, and a bit close to the E string ferrule.

Seriously, from what I can see this whole board is full of people who are advocating various brands. What would the response be if you started a thread entitled "Request, Ease Up on the Fender Advocacy"?

I've mentioned the Sire on a few threads, other than the Sire Club thread. So I guess I'm guilty. If someone is interested in a bass in the same price range - especially a jazz style bass, I think they should be aware that it might be a viable alternative. I don't think that's inappropriate - it's an attempt to be helpful. In at least one instance, the OP was not aware of their existence. Lots of members are here to learn about instruments they're not familiar with, myself included. Learning about reasonable alternatives helps people to make a more informed choice. In the end, people should buy whatever they feel fits their needs the best.

I read about them and ordered one after seeing the Sire Club thread repeatedly near the top of the posting list. I'm happy with mine and thankful that the numerous postings brought them to my attention.

I'm more annoyed and perplexed by threads that go off on a tangent and totally ignore the OP's interest - like a recent thread where the OP asked about fretless jazz basses and before long people were suggesting - and arguing about - various models of Fender Precisions and models that were not even available in fretless.

I think they're just saying if it's not on topic it's not necessary to bring it up. It becomes spam basically. If someone asked for a Fender bass recommendation it's reasonable to assume they are only interested in Fenders. There are plenty of threads to find out about other bass choices when they're more open to it so they don't need someone to remind them that there are other manufacturers out there. That sort of thing.

For a long time people would ask questions like "What's the best Jazz bass for Y dollars?" and some band of folks would start shoveling P bass recommendations down their throat. Just get a P-bass! But I don't want one, I want a Jazz bass! That's where it just gets annoying, unhelpful, and detracts from the thread.

You're probably right. TB has a habit of making these threads grow faster than one would expect....

Big difference with the Flea bass, he was touting it as a inexpensive entry level bass, not something he was necessarily going to use himself.

I think it's important to give people options they aren't aware of, and i'm willing to bet a lot of people outside of TB aren't aware of Sire. I mention squiers in threads with people asking about ibanez and yamaha entry level models, and in turn I don't get upset when people mention Ibanez and Yamaha in threads asking about squiers. keep your options open.

I was aware of Sire, but it wasn't until a few weeks ago I found out they make a fretless V7. I'm looking for a new fretless and hadn't considered this because I wasn't aware they existed. Unsure about the preamp though (I only play passive basses).
