Rickenbacker 'getting outed'

Uh oh, here comes the Rick gang. Hide your chickenbackers. :p

They come wielding the second truss rod as a weapon, be careful.

I can only attribute it to your abysmal communication skills. Sorry, sometimes I have a hard time telling crying from whining. :D

My statement (The one that you misread and then took personally) could not have been more cut and dry. Are you just trying to get under my skin?

I'll give you 3 guesses as to what brand of bass the fella in your avatar played.

I've owned a Rickenbacker myself dude!
Just let me leave in peace.

FWIW, Lemmy liked the look, but originally didn't like the RIC pickups. (installed Thunderbird humbuckers in it)
Later on John Hall had the 4004LK made, with humbuckers & he liked those fine.
(note: 4004, not a 4003)

Imho Dave is an a$$cl@wn with attitude. He'd never be asked to work on any instrument I own. Think about it boys, do you not think his workmanship will be a reflection of that attitude? He may think he's got [mad?] skills as a luth-tech but he's lacking the biggest skill of all. It's called by various names and it's multi faceted so let's just call it customer relations, consisting of positive qualities including but not limited to respect, discretion, and positivity. If he takes such a dim view of Ric products what do you think he feels about the customers who chose those instruments and came to him for help? He's in the wrong business and his video is a waste of bandwidth. No, I don't own anything Ric and never have.

dangit, I can't stop looking, it's like passing a traffic accident

One of our local luthiers had to close up shop, thanks to his interpersonal skills.
I went over there with a MIM Strat that I wanted to have recess-routed for a Floyd Rose. The Floyd was already on it, but it wasn't recess-routed.
Anyway, he nearly chewed me out for buying an "import" & asking why I didn't just pony up & buy an American Standard.

That was the last time I went to his shop & about 6 weeks later he closed up permanently.

There is more than one tech on here that will tell you about the problems.
One of the greatest sources of information about reliability & maintenance issues is the techs & luthiers who work on them daily.

But that only tells you about the maintenance, not the playing experience. There are cars/trucks which essentially an engine removal to change half the spark plugs - but that says nothing about how the car drives.

The Floyd Rose trem on a guitar is very finicky. They take forever to set up to float “perfect”, but once they’re set up they work pretty good - until its time to change strings again.

Some instruments are a pain to maintain, but the instrument can still be highly desirable and be a great instrument.

Leo Fender kinda spoiled the industry by making his basses with each part that can easily be replaced or adjusted by a couple screws. Somehow he even got a pile of parts just screwed together to feel like a complete instrument as a whole.

Not bass related but there was a bicycle shop by my house and the owner was the same way. I was rebuilding a nice old FUJI steel frame road/touring bike that had a stuck rear hub. Went in there to see if he could wrench it out of there for me. He refused, said it was junk, and just toss the whole bike. But he would gladly sell me one of his $3000.00 road bikes. I never went back and took my business to the guy up the street. The rude loser closed up. The guy up the street is still open. Easy to see why. Oh and that FUJI was a sweet ride. Flipped it for a decent profit.

Woah! Someone outside of New England that even knows who Lovecraft is! :jawdrop:

Cthulhu, dude!
I've actually read the Necronomicon, cover to cover.

Ha, the luthier I go to now thinks Japanese guitars (Ibanez) are better than U.S.-made.
