I was able to try my new 1210 last night......

I've been having some volume wars lately with my guitarist as i posted previously in this thread. This might have been partly due to the fact that my guitarist uses a SWR bass head so we've been sharing some frequency space.

so how's it sound?

It sounds Awesome! :hyper:
Very Round/full bass which is what i've been liking lately, and i agree with others who've posted it does sound very clear and articulate up and down my bass neck.
I had no troubles hearing myself even when he kicked on his "DeathMetal" distortion.
While some of the bass from both of our cabs were obviously sharing space and getting muddled i could still hear the my notes clearly punching thru the wave of guitar/bass induced distortion.
A bass cab cutting through a bass cab haha!

To me it almost sounds like a room shaking Aguilar 1x12 yet even more roomshaking with more cutting mid frequencies.

I was plucking my open B string and just letting it ring out, the cab held up very well. I dont think my B's ever sounded so good.

So i plan to probably use my 1210 on mid/small gigs and combine it with my aguilar 2x12 when playing larger places.

There's nothing wrong with using a bass amp for guitar if that's the sound you're after. The perfect example is the Fender Bassman. It sucked as a bass amp but sounds great on guitar. Bass amps do not add bass frequencies to guitar. The bass frequencies that already exist are just more noticeable.

Wait a minute. Replace it how? Are you saying a single 21012 (2x10+1x12) will be as loud as a 6x10 and 1x18 stack?

The berg 322 (210/112) is every bit as loud if not louder than a swr 610, ampeg 610, genz benz 610, etc.. that Ive A/B'ed. I can see were the schroder 21012 could easy as well. Add a 118 in the challenge, that would be impressive.

One of the coolest features of the Schroeder design is that it projects extremely well. So although it's loud close up, instead of the volume diminishing as you move away from it, it's just about as loud 20 feet away. This is very useful for me as I like to keep the volume at a level where I can hear the other players, but since I'm right next to my cab, sometimes the other players would want me to turn up and then I wouldn't be able to hear anything but myself. With the 1210 the volume remains about the same at a greater distance and I can set it at level that isn't too loud for me, but is plenty loud enough for everybody else.

Therefore, the 410 or the 21012 may or may not sound as loud in the bassist's position as an SVT stack or some other front-loaded cabinet, but it probably is every bit the equal at the audience's position. I say "probably" because I've only used the 1210, although I would say that I've noticed that effect with the 1210 as compared with an Eden 410...

That may be true but those frequencies that are more noticeable tend to step on each others toes when two bass amps are designed to project in those specific ranges.
We just did our demo over the weekend and the engineer had a tough time getting our EQ to mix well together. It's all about sharing the EQ space.
It came out great in the end though.

I doubt it, but it'd come close. My 2 1210s are very loud, efficient, and deep and I think they might be able to compete with a 6x10 and 1x18... maybe. It depends on the efficiency. If the 6x10/18 setup used similar speakers as the Schroeders, then no way. 2 1210s or a 21012 could probably compete with 95% of 6x10s though, but an 18 as well would be a tough challenge.

The bigest difference between a bass speaker cab and a guitar speaker cab is the way they treat the speaker's excursion limit. Ideally a bass speaker should stay within the limit of the suspension travel do avoid distortion. Most guitar speakers deliberately use speakers that have very limited speaker travel and therefore distort quite easily. How many times have you heard guitarists talking about having their sound "just on the verge of breaking up". That's what they're hearing (as well as some tube compression), and that's what your guitarist is currently missing out on.

How would the volume of one 1210 compare to 2 Aggie gs112's? The aggie setup was just shy of what I would like in terms of myself and the drummer being able to hear the bass on stage during a show.

I have an Aggie GS112 that I've been using for my small gig rig. While it sounds pretty darned good (considering the cost too), I notice it is fairly directional and it sounds different in close proximity versus out in the room. (love how it sounds close range and directly on axis. But off axis, I noticed it is much less distinct.

How does the Shroeder 1210 compare sonically with the Aguilar GS112? I would assume the 1210 is louder. (2 drivers opposed to one in the aggie) I would also suspect the 1210 is a bit more articluate and focused since it has a 10" driver as well. Lastly, it seems clear based on everything others have written that Shroeder cabs are known for very even volume dispersion from the stage all the way out into the room. But how about tone, clarity and sonic character related to the Aggie 112 or perhaps to Bergie 112's? Thanks! - Gary

The 6x10/1x18 combo was probably louder(not much), but it lacked definition and projection which made the extra volume useless. I really do feel that the 21012 can cover any situation the SWR stack could do.

You guys!!!:D:D:D

Yes, Scoop, I am looking at an iAmp 800 and a 1210. I am pretty much sold on the 1210, I just need somebody to sell me on the iAmp.

I feel confident that it can handle clean and modern tones well. I do have a need for some grit, and occasionally grind, and wonder how well it would work with a PreSonus tube pre or Sansamp DI.

Check out the Focus by Acoutic Image, I love this amp for a 600 watts and pair up awesome with a 4 ohm 1210 cab. This actually has been a little rig setup that a number of guys have gone with recently.......... Then run a Sansamp or Presonus in front. The Reverb is an awesome Feature on the Focus R1 also!

Can't really make that comparison. I've played the Iamp at NAMM a few times, but that was through the EA cab's, so I don't have a good reference on the Amp it self with other cabinets. However it seems the Iamp’s are really liked by a number of people with other brand cabinets.

The Focus is a clear sounding unit. Its not going to give you a different sounding instrument verse what you put into it. The Focus is very clean. If you want the grit then you would need a pedal or driver box. But the Focus is awesome for giving you the instruments tone with out coloring it.
