Schroeder Cabinets ... smart design = very compact ! (regular and lights)

I went to the Atlanta Bass Gallery today and got to do a direct comparison of my current cab, an SWR Goliath Sr., with a Schroeder 4x10. I played a Sadowsky Metro through a Thunderfunk 420 into each cab. Volume-wise, I'd say the two were about even, but the Schroeder sounded deeper and smoother. The SWR was hissing like the horn might have been cranked, but I didn't check. I'm not real familiar with the Thunderfunk -- what I'm going to try to do is bring my rack in there and play my RBI-Stewart 1.6 rig through both cabs. The Schroeder sounded really good, and at 40 lbs. less and 400 watts more power handling than my 6x10, I'd say I see a Schroeder in my near future. I wish they'd had the 21012 in stock, I'd really like to hear that one, too.

I actually did call over there earlier in the week to see what he had in the store, and he said he'd order another 21012 for stock. But, after hearing how deep and smooth that 4x10 is, I don't really think I'd need a 12 in the mix. I could have sworn I was playing through a couple of 15s!

I was there with Dave when he was trying it out (when moe's soundcheck upstairs wasn't shaking our fillings loose :rolleyes: ) acting as "changer of speaker cable," and the difference in depth was astounding between the two cabs.

I'll be very happy when my Mesa comes back from rehab and I actually get to try my 1210 with it.

Yep; the 410 sounds very powerful in the low end.
I'm a very judicious user of boost with the bass controls on my system -- a very slight smidgen of 40Hz boost on my SR5 and about 1:15 to 2:00 at 60Hz with my Dem 201S and it gets very powerful, tight and solid. Boost more and it starts thickening up a fair bit (sounding more like the 21012).
With the right eq'ing, I suspect the 21012 and the 410 could be made to sound very similar.

Ive played the cab a bit more, but definetly not enough.

I love the look.

I love the locking jack

I love the quiet tweeter.

I love the size.

I dont love the handle placement but Im guessing that its low so I can get leverage when lifting it into a truck bed or onto a stage. Its not great for stairs on your own.

Its is a dark cab. I need to give it more time and probably will tomorrow night with my new band.

Dave, I run the RBI and PLX 2402 which is pretty much the same engine room you have. I have a 21012 and a 1210. Trust me the 21012 has plenty of bottom. I run my 78 Jazz/J-retro and the RBI almost flat with just a little more bass than mid and treble. To me the 21012 sounds better than the 1210 for larger gigs (and it should) but the 1210 is more than enough for smaller gigs. I've done two outdoor gigs with the 21012 and it cut through just as good outside as it does indoors. The Scroeders sound great in the store but really come to life when you put them to work on stage.

JB, thanks for the input. I thought the 410 had plenty of bottom end, and I've gotta imagine the 21012 has even more! Since they're the same price and just about the same weight, I just have to decide which configuration I like better. Once the Bass Gallery gets another 21012 in, I'll get to find out.

I got my 1210 from Jorg in Jan. and took it out to a gig once and was simply blown away.
Took it out again last night and was smilin' ear to ear.
We don't play out a whole lot, but when I hear and feel the punch this cab has, I can't imagine another cab smokin' this one! (IMO)
Talk about smooth buttery mids and punch!

I was thinking of getting the 1212.

I talked with Jorg yesterday. I should have my 1212 by Friday. Also, I got the cover. I am very excited to see how this will effect my stage "presence" and tonal shape. Before I was having a problem with the bass drum and myself canceling out some frequencies.
I am hoping by going with the 12's that should take care of it.

I played with it at high volume some more today and I dig it.

It sounds great with a Galien Krueger 1001.

I also tried it with a Line 6 Flextone II head and 1972 Telecaster DLX reissue and it was pretty sweet.

On the downside though is that rehersal was cancelled so I wasnt able to try it with my rig in a band context.

Saturday will be the next chance.

well it's 2:13 a.m. saturday morning, and i just got through another gig with my trusty schroeder 21012. i've had it for about 6 months, and it still impresses me. it's the best cab i've ever had the pleasure of playing through. i also played some guitar through it for a while this morning. spectacular. this is truly a swiss army knife in my sound arsonal. i don't know how jorg did it but he has really hit the nail on the head with this one. how he got such volume and clarity into a 74 pound package is beyond me. to everyone who is still on the fence with these cabs do yourself a favor and get one. i ran into a bass playing buddy of mine, today, who still hauls around an svt and an 810 cab. sucker. can't fault the head but my 21012 dusts every 810 that i've ever played through. i'm sure some of you ampeg guys out there would dissagree with me, but for what i want it's the shiznit.(and i can pick it up by myself)

What does that mean, right? As some of you know I have an addiction to a 31 band eq being in my signal chain between the guitar and the preamp section of my amp. I decided to try using the EQ with my new Acoustic Image Focus 600 head and the Schoeder 1210 cabinet. So I hooked it up. Sounded pretty good.

Wanted to do a quick a/b with it on and with it off so pushed in the by pass button on the eq and nothing changed. Pushed the button back and nothing changed. I look closer (didn't have my glasses on...can't see with 'em anyways!!! Old fart challenge) and what was I pushing...the low cutoff on off button, not the eq bypass on off button. Swore at myself for being a stupid OF and then hit the right button.....cheese whiz...keyryst...what a great sounding cabinet and the head has plenty of power to spare. I'm gonna try it that way tonight at the bar we're playing at....just the one Schroeder 1210, my 31 band DOD eq, and the Focus.

The Schroeder sounded pretty darn "good" doing it "wrong", but I now can actually feel and hear why the Schroderites are so darn positive about the cab.

It's so nice to have a variety of something while I'm in between unsuccessful marriages.
