if you see this video of "viridian" towards the end, you get a pretty good glempse of his pickups, and they are definitely hz's. i know he also has a jazz background, as he played in the high school jazz band (from what i've heard). so alot of his tone comes from that sort of jazz dynamic he has instilled.

yeah im not sure on the preamp. i wouldn't doubt that it is all stock. i read once that his B string is a .145 D'addario chrome set. i know part of his tone is the flatwounds too.

I wash mine all the time. I'm OCD about it. Face it, you're a flats player. That's the tone your prefer. It's written all over your face.

I've learned to wash my hands beforehand as well as I am a serial string killer. I actually wipe my strings down with a dry cloth between every song at home and at rehearsal. I try to do it when I can at gigs as well.

That said, the denatured alcohol soak does wonders for me. I just keep two sets for each bass and rotate them on and off as they're being cleaned.

yeah man, i read in a bass player interview that he uses d'addario chromes. i love flatwounds! i have all four of my fenders strung with flatwounds. on my spector i use DR nickle lo riders. next im going to try out fat beams though.

How many of you actually wash your hands before you pick up your basses to play? Sounds silly but clean hands equal less immediate grime. I always wipe down my strings after I play too. I just ordered some circle k 112s to try.....Thanks to Mike for letting me try his...they feel great and sound cool too!

Oh, those contractor bags from Home Depot are a necessity in my house. You can pile so much junk in them and they don't puncture as easy so I always have at least one or two boxes of them on hand at all times.

Eww, is that standard in the bass? I actually have an OBP-1 laying here doing nothing since I ripped it out of my NS-JH5 but good idea installing a Tone Pump in yours. No offense to people that are fans of the OBP-1 but when that pre was in my JH5, the tone was pure mud to my ears. I would be curious to hear an OBP-2 though.

I think those came with an EMG pre of some kind iirc. I've been looking into picking up an NS-2005 for a while now actually. I figure once I sell off the old modulus, I put some of the funds into a darkglass b7k and tr other into an NS-2005 if I can find a nice looking one. I've noticed that some of them (like Dan's and the 2 beauties Gabriel's picked up) have a nice maple top that covers the part of the neck going thru the body, while others don't have as nice figuring and you can see the neck going thru. I wonder what's up with that?

Anyway, it's cool to see Dan getting so much love on here. He's one of the reasons why I got into spectors, and he's been a huge influence. Just learning prequel to te sequel has forced me to get my chops up immensely.

You bought flats, though. CK does not sell flats. If you want something the equivalent to CircleK's from BSO, he has custom sets of D'addario or SIT's for about $15 a set.

Yeah, I have been a fan of Dan and Between the Buried and Me for the last few months but I have been listening to their new CD a huge amount lately which is why I am on a BTBAM kick right now. I will take responsibility for introducing this topic the other day

I will admit that after watching all these Youtube videos and listening to them, I really want to pickup an NS-2005 to mess around with. Guitar Center has a blue one on their site for $489 which looks pretty nice but the pictures are kind of small so it's tough to see. I need to pickup the notation books he wrote for the two CD's before the newest one and just have to slow the songs down with Aplitube to try and get them at speed but that is going to take me a while

^ haha, yeah I've seen that one. I think it was just a mental slip or something I like how when he's talking about his amp and he says 'it's loud' you can hear the guitarist in the background saying 'WAY too loud'. Lol
What I've been doing lately is plugging their stuff into audacity and moving the pitch up so I can play along since my bass can't handle going that low. It makes the vocals sound pretty chipmunk-y though, which is pretty hilarious.
