Star Trek: Picard

is the problem story inconsistencies with established canon? Or deviation from Star Trek idealism (for lack of a better term)?
Both, but more importantly, uninspired, uninteresting, predictable, cliche, woke, and lazy story telling. Maybe things will change. I hope it gets better. Deviation from canon pisses me off quite a bit. Deviation from the idealism.....I'm not sure. That's not always necessarily bad. DS9 deviated from that idealism and made it work. So far though the best thing I can say is it's not nearly as bad as Discovery. I HATE Discovery. This, I don't know. We'll wait and see.

And Sir Patrick looks exhausted. I hope he's enjoying himself. Yeah he's 80 and Picard is 100, but he looks very sleepy in every scene.

In the opening, Picard is an old somewhat bitter man going through the motions of waking up each morning. Hey I’m not dead yet. Get through the daily rituals. At night, dreams from the past.

His break from Starfleet is clearly very acrimonious. He called them out then and resigned. He just called them out publicly again. Picard is not welcome there now. And something ominous is clearly afoot in Starfleet.

I’m giving it a chance to play out. I need to watch Ep 2 again so I can focus on details, not just the broad strokes.

I really do think something is “off” in the writing, direction, and performances at times. We shall see how that plays out.

When has Star Trek ever not been woke? Gene Roddenberry’s original vision was that Starfleet and Federation of Planets was woke. Nothing has changed in that department, except maybe that the definition of woke evolves.

I just watched Ep 2 again. There’s a lot to unpack. Closed captions help me a lot.

I want to slap someone around over the sometimes cringe-worthy dialog.

And yet...

Did you guys who don’t like Discovery stick with it into Season 2?
Season two is a cluster ****. The sphere and the Ai and the red angel and the not Borg? A big sloppy mess. Playing actual footage from 1966 ST? Maybe the worst story telling I've ever seen. I like some aspects of season one with the mirror universe. Season two was embarrassing. Spock legitimately says "I like science" after a technobabble convo. I think I walked out of my own living room after that line.

yes and I found season 2 just as difficult to watch...despite my excitement at seeing the original Enterprise ship there with Captain Pike...something with the way it is filmed and the casting....and dialogue
I always had a huge crush on Michelle Yeoh...so I enjoyed seeing her in first season

I might try and finish season 2

Pike was good. I like Stamets and Tilly has her moments. I got tired of Saru. A thing that's always been common in ST is a character saying "well because I'm this kind of alien I know such and such," but that was every other line for Saru. Michael Burnham might be the worst protagonist in all of fiction.

This might deserve its own thread but I’ll stick it here for now since it does tie in with Picard.

Seth MacFarlane and NBC Universal are rumored to be trying to buy Star Trek from CBS.

Rumor: The Orville's Seth MacFarlane and NBC Walk Out of Star Trek Sales Meeting - Bounding Into Comics

A new rumor details that Seth MacFarlane and his new team at NBC walked out of a Star Trek sales meeting.

The rumor, which was posted on [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], details that MacFarlane and his team at NBC had a meeting with CBS to discuss the sale of Star Trek to NBCUniversal. The meeting was scheduled for two hours, but ended up being done in half an hour when MacFarlane and company walked out of the meeting.

MacFarlane and his team reportedly walked out due to CBS’ price being “far, far in excess of what Seth was expecting.” The poster claims CBS’ price was so high because they are “emboldened by positive reception of Picard.”

However, they do note that MacFarlane and NBC did offer their own price and claimed it was “fair.” The offer allegedly included “all rights to movies and TV, except those held by Bad Robot.”

That rumor indicated that CBS’ Star Trek: Picard was receiving negative feedback during test screenings. The poster, who claims they work for CBS, wrote, “First 5 episodes of Picard were test screened and received an average grade of C from general audiences, and D from Trek fans. For reference, even our **** programs will usually get a B from general audiences.”

Although they did note, “Everyone is actually surprised how good some of the influencer comments on social media have been for the premier, but we’re putting it down to the open bar that was in the lobby. It’s not just Picard though, the higher-ups are ****ting themselves about [Star Trek] as a whole.”

Alex Kurtzman is the man largely responsible for the JJ movies, Discovery, Picard, the upcoming Section 31 show and an animated show. CBS seems to think he's brilliant and as far as I know, he has contracts for five years of ST content. I don't see how this Seth MacFarlane thing is supposed to work.

If Picard and Discovery aren’t making their viewer numbers, and if screening audiences are giving Picard poor grades, given the high cost of making the show, it’s not inconceivable that CBS would be open to a way out. As far as Kurtzman goes, I’m sure his contract could be bought out. All such contracts have escape clauses.

The rumor may not be true at all but it’s interesting. Seth MacFarlane does love Star Trek.

Just watched the first two episodes. I consider it garbage.

The dialogue is embarrassingly inane and the developing storyline doesn't inspire me at all.

I'll repeat what someone said earlier - It seems as if the writers have never seen an episode of TNG in their lives.

I'm not interested in watching any more on the slim chance that it will suddenly get a lot better.

So disappointed.

I'd like to know what Alex Kurtzman knows about Star Trek. He's definitely watched Nemesis. Before Picard came out there were all these dumb articles from dumb websites about which TNG episodes you should watch before the new show, like a primer for the uninitiated. I doubt he even watched those.

These are the same general location.

I am sad. :(
The ****** ******* inserted a piece of the TNG theme into a shot of a ship going to warp. They abused it. The moment in question had no drama or depth or gravitas. They tried to tug on the heartstrings of die hard TNG fans like me and it just pissed me off. I'll watch it all in one shot because like I said before, I have to watch it, but I won't wait a week between episodes any more.
