Yeah I see them every once in a while on GC used, good bridge and great useful pickup placement on a SG body. I remember way back in the 90s my buddy had a Gibson SG guitar that was a cool green color with the same black pearloid color pickguard, and sounded great too, had non-traditional pups too.

That is cool, I noticed the LTDs and some of those Ibanez Artcore models, have some SG and Les Paul shapes to them too.

Heard this on the radio today and didn't know who it was till the vocals kicked in. Pretty hard not to know the vocal style, but the bass sounds KILLER

Yup, I agree Wolfmother can be grouped in S/D.



Been digging The Shrine lately, not only because I have a Peavey PA200 and can cop that tone perfect, if only the talent came with.





EDIT: I do agree with Corey too, Wolfmother is definitely retro rock, but I think the lines between genres can be bent and crossed, their just words anyway, kinda same thing with The Shrine.

Fun Band, checking out The Shrine's other youtube vids now. Quite the mishmash of genres for sure!

LOL. Samsquanch... I just saw the Trailer Park Boys episode with the Samsquanch... hahahahahah. I just realized that THAT is your handle here. Man I love that show so much. It is sort of a modern day Three Stooges. I love when they spay painted "dick" on Cyrus' Corvette, with an arrow pointing to Cyrus.

Anyway, now I will laugh a bit more every time I see your posts.

LOL. Samsquanch... I just saw the Trailer Park Boys episode with the Samsquanch... hahahahahah. I just realized that THAT is your handle here. Man I love that show so much. It is sort of a modern day Three Stooges. I love when they spay painted "dick" on Cyrus' Corvette, with an arrow pointing to Cyrus.

Anyway, now I will laugh a bit more every time I see your posts.

Yeah I love the Squanch episode, Bubbles watching the bigfoot documentary then he thinks Julian in the bear rug is one breaking in his shed priceless. Plus I am huge dork for the Bigfoot myth too, so yeah a lot of people think my name is Sam or something but it is actually Joe, ha ha. I also love the episode where they think bigfoot is eating their weed crop and they take nets and potato guns out to catch the Squanch.

That EGC is cool, but I prefer the normal (or I guess reverse) thunderbird body to the non-reverse style.

However, the gold hardware kind of kills it for me. Personal preference obviously, but I normally just can't dig on gold hardware.

I have never been into gold hardware either. Every once in a while it kinda works, but for me, it is few and far between. I don't mind gold if it is dressed in a Les Paul. And I would LOVE to get my hands on a stainless steel Ludwig... I hear those are some of the loudest, and HEAVIEST, drums on earth. One day... one day...

Yeah not a fan of the noon reverse T-birds or gold hardware either. I'm in love with the look of nickel plating.

Yeah ! You should be psyched. I talked for a bit about his with Jonathan Nuñez from Torche and he seemed delighted. Same thing with a friend that has an ECG guitar.

My friend who knows nothing about our scene but enjoys a lot of the music I recommend to him asked me if Wolfmother fell under the "stoner" umbrella. I never really thought about it much. What do you guys think? Obvious Led Zep/Sabbath influences, cool psychedelic stuff, cool and crazy vintage gear, so why do you never hear anyone ever talk about them?

My theory is we basically ignore them with some subliminal pretentiousness because no one had heard of them and then suddenly they were a mainstream success. While they definitely are more radio friendly than most of the stuff we dig, I think I'd still consider them part of our stoner/doom stuff. Example:

Genres division is always difficult and subjective but for me they definitely have that "Sabbath-vibe" that's needed to be part of S/D. But, again, that's only my opinion.

Well, at least you don't have a practice scheduled with the untalented drummer from hell tonight.

If things don't get better with him, which I honestly don't think they will ( ), then it will be time to tell him that he's not the guy.

Man, if it doesn't work, it doesn't work. It sucks but that's the truth. Stringing him along for too long isn't a good thing for either of you.

saw robert plant tonight. man, that dude has some magic in his voice still. while he totally destroyed some of my fav led zep tunes with the massive attack guy on synth, he had some awesome psych vibes for their originals. the bass tone was standard ampeg-pbass-flats-mud but dear god the les paul guitar tones were to die for. P90 pickups in a thick mahogany body, mmmmmm.
