Stoner/Doom Bassists #65: Wasted Under the Brim

So I've spent the past few days messing around with recording and testing like 9 amp sim plugins to find one that sounded like an amp and not a sonic cheese grater. I think I've finally made headway. This is a bad sample, the drums don't match the music with the guitar and the riff is some crap I made up on the spot, BUT.... check out the guitar sound, direct into my mbox m track. Not really doom dunno what I call it yadda whatever. If you can guess what I used you get a cookie.

You guys know of any lowish cost drum machines (software is good) that are good for shuffles and beats in threes and sixes? Something I can program and record some riffs to.

I have ableton, but don't know how to use it. Should I work with that?

My drummer is a four-four guy and I need to show him what I want him to play, and give him something he can practice to.

Some people love to use bogus, completely unrealistic "ideals" to justify being a lazy ass. Especially the skinny weak lazy folks that think anarchy is a good idea...

Get off your ass and work!
Exactly my thoughts.
My one buddy is like this. I`ve known him my whole life(I was 5 & he was 3 when we met)and I love him like he was my own little bro. But every so often he`ll say some dumb fvcking thing disguised as his "philosophy".
Mostly I hear:
"Dude, you know money is the root cause of all evil. It`s a blight on humanity and should be wiped out. Only then, will every person on this planet be truly free and treated as equals. Look deep inside yourself, past all the Capitalistic brainwashing, and you`ll see the truth, bro."

I usually point out that his 4 year stretch of unemployment has soured his view on money.

Very,very nice!
tempted as hell to use that Squier Bass VI as a guitar in some balls-low tuning.
Do it! I bought a Pawn Shop Bass VI(candy apple red) not too long ago and I love it! I thought the PSVI was a deal at $799(MIJ reissue VI`s go for around $2,000) but the Squire is only $350! If I had the extra cash,I`d love to pick one up in Oly White.

hey, i have been a long time lurker on these threads, splendid to read how supportive everyone is, and not bashing one another. i have been playing bass for NY sludge metal band, negative reaction, for about a year and 7 months. just wanna say hello.

Hey cazzo! Glad you could join us! Where about in NY you from? Like NYC or Upstate? What kind of gear are you using?

Hehe, no worries man, just pulling your leg! :D

And yes, the dude is a total douche, that's something we can totally agree on! But I like art not artists, and I'm pretty sure there are douches in most bands I like, I just don't have any interest in finding out. :)

The douche part isn't necessarily a dealbreaker. I mean, Euronymous was kind of douchebaggy, too. I just find his douchebagginess a bit more tolerable than Varg's. And I just like how Mayhem sounds way, way more than I like how Burzum sounds.

And yeah, I kinda assume there are douches in lots of bands I like.

I guess part of the reason I like Yob so much is that every time I've met one of their members, they've been hella nice.

burzum is horrible, not just because hes human garbage, but his music just isnt good. i dig de mysterious by mayhem but thats about it as far as burzum goes.

he had more cred as count grishnak

Yeah. He got lame when he stopped using the Lord of the Rings name.

De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas > Everything Burzum has ever made.

In my opinion. Obviously.

Both of my guitarists are using around 400 watts each. Through 12x12's and 4x12's and 2x15's respectively.

But we don't really count as what could be considered normal.

In CSTVT each guitarist ran about 200 watts via 4x12's or 6x12's speakers.

Then, on the other end of the scale, there's me, ha ha.

In Catapult, one guitarist uses 30 watts, another uses 50 watts, and the other I think also uses 50 or 60, but his head is solid state (he plays mostly clean, when he plays guitar, otherwise he plays keyboard and goes through the PA). All through 4x12 cabs (one per each).

In The 5th Child, the guitarist uses a 100 watt head through a 4x12.

In the folk/rock band, the guitarist uses a 25 watt combo or the same 100 watt head (turned down a bit) through a 4x12.

In my black metal band, the only guitarist right now uses a 150 watt head through a giant 4x12.

In all my bands I use the same 180 watt head. Sometimes I use a 1x15 for the folk/rock band, but with metal it's usually a 2x15.

Money is just a stand-in for other resources. Those who think that we lived free of war or murder or other social ills before currency was invented are kidding themselves.

Talking about Varg, apparently he's been arrested in France because his wife bought 4 rifles and because he's suspected of being an Anders Breivik's sympathizer and preparing a "massacre".

I'm just waiting for the media to lump terrorism and black metal together -.-

Welcome! Negative reaction has been around a long time! I haven't heard a whole lot, i have the 'he's no good to me dead' comp with 3 songs, great stuff!

I knew these brothers in high school, their dad was Michael David, and one kid was Michael David Jr. and the other David Michael. Very christian and very original people they were.

I was named Bryce, not my first choice in name, but verrrry rarely meet another.

+1

All of west michican is dutch CRC. Very upstanding cristian named people. They you get to me, the one Polock in the crowd named Julian. I want to punch everyone that asks me, "Are you named after Julian Lenon?" Punching them is easier than explaining I was named after my great grand father who moved to america in the 20's to work so he could send money back to the family and eventually move them state side.

Caz, welcome, list of gear please.

Squanch, give that guitar some time, yo! I always give a new piece of gear 30 days of real working to make a good judgement. It's too nice and high quality of a guitar to just give it a couple of days. Plus you got a great deal on it!

As to the gunfire, and general crumbling of our society, I'm not gonna buy guns. When the s**t happens, I'm gonna hide out in the basement bunker, for about 3 months, then when all the bullets are spent, I will emerge in a homemade suit of armor, and just go Excalibur on people.

Yeah I need to control my pickiness with gear. I need to slap some 11s or 12s on it and that should make the tension closer to my Fender scales guitars. I think I want to make a fews partscasters is all trying out some different type of pups I never had, P90s and Mini Humbuckers. I sawa youtube of this company that retro fits three mini-humbuckers in Fender Strats, man they sound awesome.

And man all you guys with that gunshooting nonsense where they live, sorry you guys have to put up with that nonsense. Man if there is a gun shot in my neck of the woods, it is someone shooting a snake in the back yard. But I feel ya, Wilkes-Barre area I grew up in is pure ghetto now, one small street over from where I grew up and walked to school everyday several people have been shot or stabbed to death, blows my mind to think of how that town changed. And really I would probably have still been living there, probably bought the old homestead and moved in. I was on a dead end street on the side of the mountain, and I would of made my own Ruby Ridge up there, sealed for freshness.
