Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread Part 28: Chicken Pot Pie

Think of a ham, ANY ham. Close your eyes, see it clearly in your mind, visualize the ham. Smell the ham, taste its smokey savory flavor in your mouth. Now send that ham hurtling through the vortex of time, back to its origin. Follow your ham through the spiraling temporal eddies, gathering the matter it once shed, see it expanding and growing, piercing through the black veil of death, back into the realm of the living, gaining strength and purchase into your reality, forming into the pig it once was. Hear the squeals and snorts of the pig, smell it's pungent musk. Open your eyes....

Is THIS your ham?

-> I think the fact that most records come with a digital download has seriously helped this resurgence. Vinyl used to be a labor of love.. having to sit still, and get up every few minuted to flip it... No people have the option of buying it to collect, downloading the files, and never putting a needle to the wax. I like collecting, but I like to bring life to my toys...

Wasn't trying to sell anyone on tapes, Mp3's obviously allow the most versatility and ease of use NOW, but when the choices were Tape or CD... I favored tapes for quite a while (mostly because i couldn't afford a decent discman with ESP)

My lady's car currently has tape and cd being that it was made in the early 00's the CD player took a crap, and we use tapes (from my re-discovered collection / picked up at thrift stores for $.50) or use one of the tape adapters for the ipod... I don't ever remember a CD player velcro'd to the dash really working well. However the tapedeck -> ipod set up is great. I much prefer it to trying to use one of the radio transmitters.... Anybody remember those? Having to find a new station ever 45 minutes while driving because something started cutting in... ARG! the things we endure to enjoy the music we love...

Oh, man. I ****ing hate those radio transmitters. I had one for a while in my old car before I got a new deck that supports iPod hookup through the glove box. I miss that stereo so much...should have never gotten rid of that car.

Our bands first release will be on steel wire.

I have one of these sitting on my desk. It has tubes.

There was a whole piece on the radio earlier this year, about how some guy had to come up with a new algorithm for a computer program to rip old wire recordings. Due to all the weird distortions inherent in the medium. There was a complete lost Woody Guthrie concert on an old spool, with some versions of songs that were never recorded elsewhere. They were covering it because of his 100th birthday celebration. Pretty interesting listen.

For the cost travel, room and board, I will come to you and sing my entire solo album around a campfire, accompanied by folksy anecdotes and witticisms about their origins. You must provide your own campfire, I will bring my own stump to sit on.

won't you get kind of creeped out when it's just me across the fire, you are alone, far away from civilization......(cue banjo)

On a side note of banjos...I always thought they were the perfect instrument for self defense. Think about it, walking down a dark lone alleyway, strumming you banjo Deliverance style, no ones gonna fvck with you for fear of rape and by chance some one doesnt know the song enough to fear it and comes close enough, you are holding a 15 lbs mallet, bash the dude over the head. I think it might hold its own in a Zombie Apocalypse as well.
