I've seen a couple example online of a solid body violin bass, those looked pretty cool and probably feel less toy-ish. I'd rock one with a Model 1 pickup in the neck position...or well, try it out at least.

I've seen a couple example online of a solid body violin bass, those looked pretty cool and probably feel less toy-ish. I'd rock one with a Model 1 pickup in the neck position...or well, try it out at least.
Aside from just the standard Hofner, I'd rock the ever-loving sh!t out of an old Gibson EB-1. Get all Felix Pappalardi up in dis bidness.
I'd mod the guts save the pickups. I just thought the placement would be cool for a ric like short scale for cheap.
Hey I actually saw rose hill drive in 2007 at ACL. The singer/bass player had a p bass and j bass and the P suffered technical difficulties so he destroyed it and through it in the crowd. I was wearing a hot pocket shirt a friend gave me and some chick liked it sooo much she wanted to buy it so I had her buy me a rose hill drive t shirt and traded her. Have their first cd somewhere here, found it at a thrift store.
So, heard an acoustic act I enjoyed. Kiel Grove. Played that gig with us last week. Very nice guy, super soulful.
I saw them open for the Who in...hell, probably 2007 as well. Honestly, I think they were better. Not that Pete and Roger aren't cool, and Pino and Zak Starkey are pretty beast, but when I saw Rose Hill Drive on stage, especially with a Bass player singing, right when I was starting to pick up bass, that was a huge moment. Majorly influential on my playing. I have a boatload of their bootlegs and stuff. Love them.
Always thought it would be cool to have our own subforum like the DOOM room on ILF has...

Anyone know of anywhere that sells flatpacks for greenboy/fearful dually cabs? I want to build a 215 based off the dually, but want to do it myself cuz I dig that. Happy to pay for the time that went into design, I just like DIY stuff. I know they only offer sales through certified builders or whatever. Or at least that's what I've heard last. Anyone know of such a thing, or something similar/comparable? Looking to use Eminence 3015's. Thanks!

Dually and bassic are awesome. You can't build them yourself, but other designs are available. @mbelue and Julian will know the models you can and where to source them.

The Duallyis only offered as a finished product. It is a fantastic cab, one of greenboys best. The only set of plans offered for a 215 is the '66. Both have their merits, and would depend on application.
The Dually is one of the best 2x15 cabs I've ever owned. I can't praise it enough, great tone and the most efficient (read: most volume output for what I put into it) cab I've ever played. It's not the same thing as a sealed 810 at all, which is why I still have mine, but for the sound it does it kills.

Ahh, saturday morning and no school work. Just had a gigantic plate of fried potatoes with onion, garlic and jalapenos topped with some fried organic brown eggs. Now waiting for the SVT to warm up so I can check bias. Then I'm going to play the bass for a bit, then maybe hit up pawn america and a couple of other shops with secondhand gear to try and find myself a deal on a 4RU case for the ampeg. Like @CL400Peavey says Greenboy only gives out plans for the '66 as far as 2x15s go.
(I wonder if in retrospect he would have rather given away a different line of plans instead of the Fearful. None of his other designs match its performance. Its like Ford/Shelby giving away plans for their Mustang Cobra but only selling their stupid V6 mustang at the dealership.)
There are several members here who've documented builds they've done. No one has built them so who's to say which one is better?

It gets lots of love and even greenboy commented it might sound similar. It's performance especially at the limits will be much different, due to the smaller port area. There is some extensive routing in this design but it's bracing seems OK.
Bogeybass f'd this one up, but the design wasn't bad. He just cratered at a very crucial point. I really would have liked to have seen this done right. He brings up some neat ideas about cone rocking and actual cabinet volume vs damped volume.
Then there is the new BFM (herpes) Simplexx 115, which any idiot could make into a 215. Bill doesn't generally like low tunings so there might not be much low frequency extension. If you bought the plans (I got them) it shouldn't be too difficult to modify them for tuning(i might). His bracing scheme is unmatched, there are lots of cuts other than 90°. So it isn't a simple as some others.
He also has his Jack series, which again doesn't have a 215 version. Yet again I think wouldn't be too hard to cook one up. Especially if you got the Jack 212 plans with it, you could borrow ideas from each other. This design is more sensitive than all the others, owing to horn loading. But again the tuning might be too high for some. Also its sensitivity is in the midrange so it gets called "honky" sounding. Lots and lots and lots of weird cuts not at 90°. If your an OK woodworker before trying this you'll be much more skilled after. The plans do have neat jigs and stuff to help with the odd cuts.
Then there the old TL606 plans. They get brought up on TB allot and I wish they'd go away. They are designed for 3/4" plywood and braced wrong for a speaker cabinet. Lots of commercial cabinets have used them and been successful. They don't sound bad just designed outdated construction techniques. They are suitable for a wide variety of drivers with various tuning options. If someone(me) would just do the math to convert to 1/2" and fix the bracing I'll stop hating them.
There are some other members who've done 2x15s but it's early and I'm trying to give platelets.
Goddammit I need to be building something.
