Yeah, I drink more coffee than I ingest food these days.
And I don't want any of that Starbucks mochachinofrappelatte jazz either. Just black as pitch and mightier than the hand of an avenging god.
I'm sure my colon loves me for it.
Coffee is supposed to prevent colon cancer.
+1 on the drum stuff being expensive. I've played drums in bands and I always felt like I couldn't afford to sound how I wanted. It's not like basses/guitars and amps where you can find a less expensive solution and still sound pretty damn good. If I wanted those huge cymbal sounds I had to shell out for huge cymbals - no cheap way around it. shaging sucked.

I consider myself a fair drummer but I haven't had a kit of any kind for decades, and this is the reason. THE most expensive rawk instrument to play. And humping gear, setting up and breaking down ain't no kind of fun.
I'm considering getting my daughters a cheap kit to bash around on. I see them on CL around here pretty cheap and while the quality is surely sub-par it could be fun for the garage...

Yeah our drummer has found that out the hard way and has almost finished redoing his whole kit with really high end zildjans and the sound is so much better. But spending $400+ on something you beat with sticks really blows my mind
I have been pounding coffee and frosted wheat at work. So I am in a state of colon confusion. I believe they should put grab bars in all stalls, not just the handicap ones, you never know how bumpy the ride is going to be...
Yep - something you beat with sticks that will most likely crack and become unusable in a year or two.
soooo, everyone should own a LS-2. coaxing a lot more out of my amp by blending the parallel together at the board.
Checkout Saluda Cymbals. My drummer moved from higher end Sabians and Zildjians to Saluda. (He still has a couple K's that he'll never get rid of though) Prices are crazy cheap, and very comparable to the big names. They also are very willing to work with you to do custom timbre/turning/finishes/etc.
Absolutely agreed! I use mine to blend my dry with a Russian Green Big Muff. Heaven. Ultra versatile pedals.

Refinishing isn't a neccesary cost, but I would like to learn to do it and build from the ground up. I Read about cutting away all but and inch of the reso heads and basically turning them into concert toms. The hot coffee can bass drum port. Felt beater. All the toms have pretty clean 2-ply heads. So I'm hoping it'll be a nice warm vintage kit.

Can you use a LS-2 to balance a pedal with no master volume with the unity volume of the rest of the pedal chain?
slightly different to the usual use - ric-o-sound straight out of the bass, then..
neck pickup -> bluebeard -> A return
bridge pickup -> cthulhu -> B return
LS-2 set to A+B MIX mode, green knob controls bluebeard volume, red knob controls cthulhu volume. allows me to tame the extreme volume that the cthulhu has too, making a more saturated sound at a more manageable gain level. it also fixes the natural unbalanced nature of the rick's bridge/neck, and the buffer is doing wonders for my treble loss from cable length.
yep! i'm pretty sure anything past 12 is a boost. you can blend said pedal in with the rest of your chain too.
Yeah, I wouldn't mind having an LS2 at some point. I built a simple loop blender that works fine, but I'd like to have the extra options.
And to tie this whole thread together, I would like to report that my drummer in Hex Volt, Jim, is a big Flaming Lips fan and like Kliph, uses fancy schmancy Istanbul Agop cymbals. In the one year we've had the band going, he's cracked his hi-hat and had to pony up some serious $$ to replace it. I offered my Sabian XS20 (not shabby at all really, as least as far as I'm concerned), but he apparently likes the nice stuff. He's also busted a rivet out of his riveted crash. I have to admit that I'm kind of flattered that my riffs inspire people to smash sh!t until its broken.
Gonna go buy some materials.
Should I buy some brasso or other cheap cleaner and clean these old nasty cymbals? They aren't like vintage treasures by any means.
