I want the lows of the blower box without the (and I may be alone with this opinion) corny distortion that you just can't work out of the sound of no matter how many different gain stages.

I should clarify though. I don't think the Blower box is corny sounding, I just didn't like that it made everything sound like the blower box when it was in the chain and on, no matter what. Killed the versatility for me. 'Twas a cool trick it did do though.

You know, that's pretty much how I've felt about that box, too! Never really could put words to it, though. It sounds amazing, but it definitely has its own sound that can't be tweaked to sound like much else. I'm always on the fence about it. I like it, but it never makes the cut on the board, or not for long.

Before GAS struck me too hard, and I HAD to buy something, I dug through my extra pedals drawer. Found my old Joyo American that I never messed with too much. Might have found another fuzz to compete with my GK Rails! I'm really digging it. It'll take some effort, however, to get my sound from it. One of the biggest draws for the GK has been that I can go from low gain to high gain sounds with the Boost switch. One of my favorite songs requires me to go from low to high during parts, and that has been really great with the GK. The American does that too, but with finger dynamics. I can do that, but just gotta practice!

Ever seen a dirt/boost pedal with a secondary or only a momentary foot switch?

Like something either just a little louder, or so chaotic and scary you wouldn't want it engaged long.

Could you just have Dunwich cook something up? I mean, probably expensive, but likely worth it.



So, now that I have some money from this exhausting factory job, I'm kinda looking at getting new stuff.

Anyone know where I might find the best price on Faital Pro 15PR400s? Or am I unlikely to find them for any less than $260 a pop?

Just got to thinking Hmm, i have a 14x24 bass drum, a 14x20" bass drum, and a 15x16 floor tom.

Put an ad out to see if I can find someone to cut the 15" deep Tom to 14" and I'll convert the 20" diameter bass drum into a floor Tom and snare mount the 16" floor Tom. So everything is 14" deep and bigger diameters by 4" increments.

I'd just use them as is in that configuration, if you can find someone that's willing to take off an inch, cut and sand the bearing edges, and drill and remount the hardware for the bottom head it's going to cost you more than you spent on the drum. It would be easier and cheaper to just find an old drum that's the size you want.

If it were me, I'd just rock them the way they are.

Went to Lawrence, Kansas last night and saw Neurosis with Brothers of the Sonic Cloth and The Body. The Body didn't really do it for me. The dude had a massive guitar tone, but it just turned into a wall of noise at the speed he was playing. When he got into a slow legato groove it was great, but most of the time was spent just making white noise. Brothers on the other hand sounded amazing. They played an awesome set. Neurosis blew my mind, my neck and back are sore from headbanging so hard. Talk about a band with masterful dynamics, from dead silence to a roaring wall of melting tubes, they pulled it off. They played alot of my favorite songs including locust star and through silver and blood. 20/10 show! I'm still caught in the afterglow.

Any thoughts on the GK Fusion 500? My random GAS attacks are now pointing me in the direction of amps. I know NOTHING about tubes, or tube amps, except that they need a load to not blow up. Anything I should know?

Those will both be plenty loud for an apartment rig. I'm just really thinking of downsizing some stuff. When I went through my unused pedals the other day, I just realized how many I had that I really don't have any use for or desire to use right now. And I've got two entire rigs, which would be fine if I needed them, but I host practice, so that's unnecessary. Was thinking of downsizing, keeping the 700RB as backup and maybe getting rid of my other amps and pedals. Just spitballing right now, though, so who knows. If I get the Fusion 500, I'll have to sell off all that stuff first, just to have the cash. I'm too thrifty to just buy first. (Though I DO have a bit of overtime money coming in soon...)

When people say "tube amp," they generally mean an amp with a tube power section. Those are the ones that need a load.

Cool. Thanks. Just don't know what I'm gonna do lately. New amp and sell off a bunch of stuff to afford said amp, or just get new and different pedals? Life's been crazy hectic lately, maybe I shouldn't do anything!

I've played one of the fusion 500s. It's a decent sounding amp. It kind of falls in with the strategy and prodigy I tried as far as being good sounding, but really character less amps. I'd much rather get an old 800 rb over the fusion.

Thanks for the input. I'm really thinking of something tubey, but then again, I'm on a limited budget. My Gamma Bass OD does "tube" pretty well (at least, I think it does, not having ever played a tube amp), but I want something that has different settings. I'm trying to streamline my setup lately, but the big problem I'm having is a single song where I go from slight tube grit to full on cutting fuzz, but with the same underlying tone. Can't quite find an easy way to do that. My GK Rails is best so far, but it doesn't sound as warm as tube stuff, but nothing tubey (that I have) sounds as biting. This problem, combined with boredom and desperately trying to forget school starts next week has been a rough mix.
