Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Man... I have cash and an svp cl just came up in the classifieds as well as a crest prolite 3.0... Basically what I originally wanted. Guy is asking a bit much in my opinion but those preamps are relatively rare. It's kind of ****ing on the Aggie idea, but man... It would be cool to save some money.

Maybe get the Ampeg pre and find a killer deal on a power amp somewhere else?

He specified no trades. I offered $600 for both. I think at the very least I want to grab that pre. It's a familiar platform with great reviews.

It'll sound amazing, I'm sure. As for the power amp a crown xls2000 can be had new for $250, maybe less. "Only" 2100W in bridge mode at 4 ohms but that would be more than though for me.

Otherwise if you don't care about having a heavier amp there's all kinds pf older used power amps for cheap.

I don't think the dually is rated for over 1000 watts, idk how much your trying to throw at it, just saying.

No but there is all of the theory about overpowering speakers, gently. Either way I would never be running the full kW. I just would like the have and not need then the other way around. Really, 600w a side would be plenty. I mean I didn't really struggle with the 4 pro but a couple of times. 90% of the time it was enough.

Double doesn't matter because I am getting that preamp and crest prolite 3.0 with a gator rack for 650 shipped. Probably the most pricey of the options is considered, but it is exactly the combo I envisioned and wanted when I decided to run a pre/power rig with dual duallies. Both came up for sale hours ago and it just feels like the stars aligning and ****. Plus that preamp will sell for what I'm paying if I choose to move it. Power amp will stick with me.

At 875w a side, of which I do not intend to dime, I should be fine. And loud as ****.

I'm being a forum white today. I've slept about 6 hours in the last 2.5 days and eaten three times. I'm also on the road to Wisconsin for a wedding mañana, so ultra bored on this 8 hour drive.

I mean I guess it's her choice, but some people just don't give a **** and I really don't understand that when the recipient of the effects of those choices is an unborn child. I've known some truly ****y mothers (one girl I know used to bring her 2 and 3 year old with her to buy drugs), but even they quit smoking while pregnant.

Haven't had any guitar for a few months now, but want one to play around on. Might even use it in some programs for kids.

Local guy selling me a Strat copy next week for $50. Strats ain't my faves, but I am playing some psych-surf kinda stuff and single coils and a whammy are called for.

Brand is S101. I used to have a P bass copy from the same company and it was pretty decent. Fingers crossed.

Recording is going well. Stacking up tracks left and right.

Dude, I worked Child Welfare 2 years in sh!tty OKC. I saw stuff I will take to my grave. Things I could never talk about with family or friends.

Lemme tell you: when you are sitting in a filthy living room with a toddler that has cigarette burns on his back and you know the crackhead mofo sitting across from you did it, it's hard to remain dispassionate and "professional" and not leap over a coffee table and choke the a-hole out.

It really makes me feel like some people should be forcibly sterilized. You have to take tests to do everything from getting into college to driving, but anyone can have a kid. Not everyone should.

I work in Special Ed, behavioral specifically. There are plenty of terrible parents. Many of my kids aren't disabled by birth, they're disabled by wildly ignorant and careless parenting. Makes me scared to have kids, just in case something doesn't turn out quite "right" (for lack of a better term), but then I remember that I'm a good person and could never do anything like that to a kid. No matter what, I'm pretty much guaranteed to be a better parent than some of those that I come into contact with. It's sickening.

1. Lol. But true.

2. IMO only the unholy trinity of their first three albums but that's also because I despise Dio.

Also, out of STL, Fister is ****ing incredible, Black Fast rips and The Lion's Daughter is also pretty righteous.

Really all of you guys should check those bands out. It'll be worth your time. Fister is getting ready for a western tour as well.

RE: preamps

I had a BBE compressor that I never really grew fond of. Kind of scares me away from BBE products, but that Bmax-T looks interesting. I may have opened a whole new gas door for myself. I am still looking primarily at Tech 21 though. If I can get relatively flat and clean without the sansamp signature tone then I think it would work great. Then again maybe I'll like the sansamp tone when it isn't fed into another ampeg preamp which is my only experience with it.
I like more than just the first three. In terms of Sabbath albums. I love the songs off of Paranoid but find the album versions unlistenably thin sounding. Aside from that, I love all the first ten Sabbath albums except Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die, but even those have their moments.

Ever have one of those nights where you dream epically long, stressful, somewhat disturbing dreams that seem to go on for years, then when you wake up you're exhausted, feel like you've aged 10 years and it messes with your head for hours afterward?

I had that last night. Exhausted and weird today. Weird.
For me the worst, besides disturbing dreams, is dreaming about being at work. And then having to wake up to go to work. I feel cheated.

A buddy of mine turned me on to the BBE Sonic Stomp/Sonic Maximizer and now I can't imagine a pedalboard without it.
It's mostly a fancy mid scoop with some phase stuff going on. You know that, right?

It is supposed to be ampeggy but it's far from the real thing. Some people just can't stand the baked in Sansamp tone. I'm one of them. It can sound great when other people use it, but with my basses and amps it's never worked out. I haven't used the VT series, they're supposed to sound better.

Turkeydude - if you're not going to use the sansamp tones and are just looking for a clean preamp then I don't see the logic is paying for a Tech 21 rack pre. There's lots of other options that can get you what you're looking for - for less $$$ than a Tech 21 pre.
I like the VT Bass pedal. I mean, it's not the real thing, but it's a handy substitute for my amp, and a nice backup to get pretty good tone out of any amp if mine dies.

Isn't it just a fancy mid-scoop? I guess if could work in tandem with some other effect, but it's certainly not my thing. I met a guy once who swore by his, but it was pretty obvious his "tone" was purchased, and not from actual knowledge of his rig.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I avoid those things like the plague.
You're not wrong

I'm at a gas station in the middle of Illinois staring at a very pregnant woman smoking. God damnit.
If she intends to carry the pregnancy to term, which it sounds like she intends to, if she's "very pregnant," then she really shouldn't be doing that.
