Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Well, I pulled the trigger on a new mini tube head for recording guitar at home. Bought a Traynor DH15H, made an offer on a new one from a dealer on ebay and they accepted. Next up, trying to decide between getting a new 1x12 and a speaker or possible just buying two new different 12" speakers for my current 2x12 to get some variety. I have a set of older Celestion 65's in my 2x12 now and like them, but I was thinking maybe doing something like a Greenback and Vintage 30 (or similar equivalents from other brands) might be good for recording demos.

The Epi Thunderbird is treating me well, been playing around with it a lot. I really need a new band so I can crank it up with Mr. Grumpy through my 810, but no luck in that department lately.

What's the T-bird tuned to?

I used to have a 6 string Spector that I tuned E A D G B E just like a guitar, pretty fun.

I had my longhorn in a piccolo-like tuning of A standard for a time. Was fun to plunk around on and pretend to play guitar like Max Cavelera.(Why the hell did I ever sell that? Oh yeah string tension and iffy intonation, still miss it though. :()
How much will crooked fret strings cost you for this experiment?

depressing post warning: didn't get the full time digital photography professor job, they didn't even interview me, thinking about leaving LA to go back to Ohio and just buying into a condo or something, left my art gallery last week, because i didn't really see the point in working with people who couldn't sell anything and were always doing everything at the very last minute, all these wealthy folks who grew up out here keep telling me that things are gonna improve greatly, that's easy to say, but i'm getting older and the combination of working 11 hours a day(four days a week), playing music/writing music, making art, doing freelance, and maintaining the ranch is too much
*the weird thing is now that i'm finally getting better at bass, recording, and performing it seems like i'm destined to just be some dude who photographs bands and posts his pics on fb cause he's too exhausted to do much else
**on the positive side i have been building a collection of homoerotic michael myers photos as inspiration for my planned industrial horror dance band

Sorry things aren't going well. After moving away from Northeast PA I had to go back for four years to finish my college. It was four years reminding me why I moved out of there in the first place. I had a job out of state before I even finished my last day of class. Not being negative but I just thank goodness I didn't get stuck back there, so just throwing that out there.

No more than regular crooked fret strings. Going to see if Payson can't whip me up a set as I refuse to give kalium another cent. I figure it will let me play normal bass, and still do a little more lead/solo work in the three piece I am getting off the ground right now. Might be useful for the songs where the singer/guitarist plays electric violin.

I am sorry to hear that. Sincerely. I understand. I feel like I am stuck in Oklahoma forever, for the sake of fvck.

But you know, having traveled pretty widely and having moved and lived literally all over the lower 48, I've come to feel that location isn't the be-all and end-all of existence. I'd rather live in parts of California or back in Arizona, but I've come to (partially) accept that if that's not to be, at least those places are THERE.

I live kind of in the middle of the US. If we wanna take a trip to, say, Denver, or Vegas, or New Orleans (all places we love and have spent time in) we are more or less equidistant from them. Ditto for NYC and LA. We are closer to Mexico than to Canada, but they are both reachable.

All to say, I've come to feel that WHERE I happen to be physically located on the map doesn't correlate all that strongly to my actual happiness or life-satisfaction.

I wish you the best. There are worse places than Ohio!

True but where you are physically can have a huge impact on your lifestyle.
Cost of living, work prospects(:sorry:) etc.
That's before you get to the social impact of your immediate peers.
Not to speak for @mpdd but LA has a huge risk/reward ratio for artistic employment. If the money isn't there for him he can only be so detached from "the where".

All good and true points, I think. Probably more applicable to people younger than me (which is most everyone here I think.) But yes.
