Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Maybe, but finding that particular year, in that color... maybe more difficult.

Oh pseudo exclusive bass companies.

I'd love a Ric at some point but I'll be honest, their BS warranty and unnecessarily tight production simply to drive up their price kind of makes me want to give them a finger and tell them to sit and spin. They are fine guitars. I'd also have to play one first. I've never played two that felt the same and the way they play I find to be very polarizing.

I love their look, and their sound when someone else plays them. Doesnt work for me though. Thats why they make shirts in different colors too.

I love them, personally. Don't really care about the warranty, as I tend not to buy new gear.

I don't think their production is really "unnecessarily tight." It's what happens any time there is more demand for a product than supply. And fact is that they would actually make more money by making more instruments.

My issue is that they did the recent snowglo (white, in other words) run before bringing back the 4003S... so there aren't white 4003S models that are new. And older 4003S/4001S models are kinda rare. As much as old farts with sensitive skin complain about the binding on talkbass, when the 4001 and 4003 were available without it before, people didn't tend to buy many of them that way.

Wow just read 150 posts so i can quote one....

Looking at your preamp have you tried any different Ultra Lo settings? Running it at setting 1 and having your bass boosted later in EQ is a TON of subbass going into your poweramp. Most of which isn't coming out of your Dually. Its just heat and cone flap.

Yes it's a great cabinet loaded with great speakers, but it's not a subwoofer.

Maybe try switching your Ultra Lo to setting 2 (3 cuts at the wrong place stick with 2). Should trim some sub bass out before you get to your poweramp. I'm betting its subbass thats clipping it not the rest of your signal. Remove that and you should be able to turn up more.

Maybe more volume for free.

Good luck dude. If you want more subs, get subbs.

Actually setting 1 is ultra lo off. Everything else boosts sub lows.

Really my dream doom bass is a 4003S in white, without the binding, but that's sooooo close.

I might be inclined to wait around and see if I could find a new one used, then have it refinned in white if I were you. I've thought about eventually getting the Ric refinished, though idk what color (probably white or ruby red) but that's not really a high priority at this point.

Id get the ric if i were you. The mesas will be around later and even though the ric isnt your exact perfect ric, its value will hold better than the mesa and if you find your unicorn, you could sell this one off...like to me!

Azulglo, walnut or white are what Im looking for...but every one I ever see for sale in person is fireglo, and Im not buying a ric without playing it first to make sure its "the one".

Maybe you should sell everything and get a 1566 or whatever it's called and the offered sub as well for it to sit on.

Maybe down the road I'll consolidate to a 66.

I'm just going to roll with this for now. If push comes to shove I'll load a peavey 215 with 3015s and run an 810 and 3 215s. It should be a tall enough stack at that point that they will have to turn down. :)

So last night was Hex Volt's first show since late August, the first show since the drummer broke his forearm in late November. We opened for locals Dead Canyon and Spoiled and touring band Owl from Oakland, CA.

It went really really well. It was probably the biggest crowd we've ever played to, at least by the end of our opening set. That's not saying a whole lot, but it was still a thrill. It helped that both Dead Canyon and Spoiled are 1) Great 2) Popular individuals with lots of friends in the scene and 3) neither band had played real recently. And we played pretty good, too. Saw some old friends, made some new ones. I do believe, overall, it was the best show of my 40-year old life. Except maybe my wedding, but that's a whole different thing. Head buzzing on coffee, 3 hrs sleep, and general party reverberations. Happy Friday!
