Snow day here, so I'm doing the Stay-at-home-Papa thing. Been introducing my 2yearold to Goatwhore and kinda craving a decent fuzz.

Anybody actively using the DOD Carcosa?

Can the Hi-Cut do a really dark LoFi tone?

Does it sound morelike Low Pass or more like a treble knob?

Had the Carcosa twice. Sold it twice. Hard to do, as I am an unabashed DOD fanboy for most things. But not their “fancy” dirt (Carcosa and Boneshaker). Not bad by any stretch, but it was always a little too splatty for me. I don’t think it does lo-if well, but I have found I’m definitely a muff guy for fuzz. It does dark fine. My hi-cut was always at about 9:00. Not sure as for LP or treble.

The Boneshaker seemed to be awesome but all that control just makes me want to nitpick more. Always like 90% of the way to what I was trying to accomplish never perfect.

If you’re not a muff fan, it may be just right! For me, the hi-cut was very sensitive. Mind you, I like dark tones, so it stayed at the 10:00 mark or less at all times. It was a good fuzz, but just not a muff. Can’t really knock it, but it’s just not my style. I’m not versed in lots of fuzz tones, but that’s my two cents.

I do, but I always like to make disclaimers that I'm strictly a bedroom rockstar so my opinion may not be valid.

I love my Carcosa, and I feel that I have it dialed into a very muff like sound, but I haven't really touched the knobs since I set it that way.

Hi Cut is pretty sensative, I have it kept really low. I don't know if I'd call it treble or low pass, the higher it goes the more splatty it gets. I really like my Carcosa and haven't felt the urge to buy anything else since I got it.

Also, my experience is that a guy/gal tells you right out of the gate that they 'only do rhythm' or 'don't solo' is usually code for 'I suck'. YMMV

The best guitarist I ever knew was primarily a rhythm player.

I finally have the Boneshaker set the way I like. But I use it essentially as an amp sim.

I'm curious about the Carcosa.

My custom muff has a mids switch and a mids knob. Can do traditional muff stuff but also get a really nasty midrangey tear your face off sound.

I'm just trying to find 1 that can play worth a poopie. I'm trying to start a doom band, but Detroit isn't exactly a doom hotbed. I've had a few replies. But, they've all said 'I'm not really a lead player'. Wth? I want a power trio format so yeah, solos.

I feel ya man, I'm up in Warren. It's weird, any time a doom/stoner/heavy psych band comes through they sell well, even weekdays. But it seems like most of the people that go don't play themselves or don't wanna be in a band.

I've been on the fence about starting a new band. My current one is on hiatus because I'm here and we're out of Lansing...with a new kid I barely got time. We still jam a few times a year and fill in spots on a gig when asked, but I miss it. Been thinking bout starting a heavy psych band, or at least start recording and releasing the stuff I'm writing.

Either way, I hope to get back to playing more. Long story short, I know how ya feel, sucks. At least a ton of killer bands are coming through this year.

The records are good, but seeing them live is something else. Probably one of the tightest bands, musically, I've ever seen. Figures, I guess, since they're married.

sounds big and smooth. very responsive to bass and amp settings as well as my playing. the only cab i've tried that was more responsive was the ampeg b25 215.

Very nice. I bet it sounds amazing with the Matamp. I've only ever seen one of those in person, and it was being used by Yob's bassist. And sounded great.

no definitely not but the bergs are supposed to be more efficient.

i had my amp set to the same volume i use at practice. while quieter, the speakers handled the power better than my 810. no breakup at all but i'll probably have to push the amp more at practice.
