Any of you guys rock either a GK 400rb or a Sunn concert bass head? Maybe an old peavey? I'm moving out some synth gear as well as an old warwick and might be able pick one of these puppies up. Or, give me a recommendation in a head under, say $900. I currently have a trace elliot RAH-300 12 GP. Its cool, but i was thinking of adding a 'doomier' head to the family.

I currently have (in addition to the trace head): a 4ohm GK neo 4x12 cab and a jazz bass (see up thread). I use a bad monkey and bass big muff deluxe for dirt at the moment.

I'm not crazy about SVTs as i dont like that the mids are 'flat' at 10. I like to boost mids.

Ive looked at a bunch of heads, old and new - my heads spinnin'. Help me out.

I'm selling both a Sunn Beta Bass head and an SVT III pro. If you like lots of mids, the Sunn is your best bet. Either will doom it up regardless. Get at me.

Fixed the Gunslinger, and it was even easier than I thought! I just tightened the switch and it seems to be acting as it should now. @br1qbat and @Jolagh how about this odd scenario since your advice on the Gunslinger was spot on.

My Ultimate Drive needs WAAAY too much volume to be at unity when using a gate. The gate works perfectly with other pedals, and everything (including UD) works perfectly with other gates. Weird impedance mismatch or buffer problem? (UD works fine with the gate with a buffer after it.). I have used an identical gate of my friend’s and it does the same thing, so I don’t think the gate is the problem, especially since it works with every other scenario. Might go get an OD GLove from my local GC today since there’s a used one cheap right now and they’re both OCD circuits

Thanks again, gents!

Uhhhhh, dunno. I don't really use gates. Is it the JOYO ultimate drive? My 'true bypass' joyo phaser was a major low end and tone sucker. I wonder if its a joyo quirk?

Never used joyos stuff but the fact tbat tightening the gunslingers switch made it work correctly implies that the pedal isnt grounded correctly. Maybe the UD and compressor are the same way and so they are grounding together and like feeding voltage back. What happens if you put some other (non joyo, non buffer) pedal between the gate and UD? If it brings the volume up it kind of tells me that they are creating a ground loop. Not an electrical engineer so i defer to anyone with more expertise.

That might be the way to go

I don't know resistance and construction, but there's at least one other vendor out there making p'ups with the big single poles, too. I'd looked at as many different options before I settled on my choice.

Also, I find it's under appreciated, but if you're willing to route wood the P/P is a great way to add some more punch and oomph to a regular Precision.

No, that part of the chain has been consistent. UD, Gunslinger, BiFET Boost w/Buffer (can be turned on/off, and UD works great with buffer on), then MXR SmartGate. I didn’t mention before, the UD is quieter when the gate is off, but at normal volume when gate is on. I have just moved the BiFET (w/buffer) to the loop, and the UD is always much quieter there. I have the volume at 3:00 for unity.

Hope his helps, and thanks again for the info.

Update - the gate seems to amplify the Ultimate Drive, but only the Ultimate Drive. I set it up for unity gain without the gate on and without the loop being used, and it seemed to work fine. I then turn on the gate and the UD’s volume jumps dramatically, but with no settings being touched. If the gate is completely removed from the signal chain the UD works fine.

You got me man. Maybe that noise gate just doesnt like the noise the UD makes. A little looking shows some people having a aimilar problem with their 5150s and the smartgate in certain poaitions but no solution.

Cool. Thanks. Kinda figured it was some weird anomalous thing, but couldn’t find any info on it. Might have to swing an OD Glove and check it out. Can’t imagine that weird issue would likely pop up on another pedal. And EHX typically makes quality stuff, if not everyone’s tonal cup of tea.

Got a Supercollider 71 today. Might actually dethrone my Pharaoh Supreme. Gonna have to try the Pharaoh on the LED setting, as that rips on the 71. Never thought I would love a fuzz as much as my Pharaoh, but I may be eating those words soon. Never really got past the MOSFET setting on the Pharaoh since it’s just so good, but I’m certainly rethinking that now!

A new and improved version of a song my band recorded previously. My modded EB3 can be heard in this version of the song with the Dimarzio Model 1 neck pickup and the Ernie Ball flatwounds. For a comparison of before and after EB3 mods check out this song in my signature from when the EB3 was stock.
